INFO: Steven John Wilson (born 3 November 1967) is an English musician and record producer, most associated with the progressive rock genre. Currently a solo artist, he became known as the founder, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of the band Porcupine Tree, as well as being a member of several other bands. He has also worked with artists such as Opeth, King Crimson, Pendulum, Jethro Tull, XTC, Yes, Marillion, Tears For Fears, Roxy Music, and Anathema. To The Bone is his fifth studio album so far.

It is an okaaay album, sadly I think SW became the "International Popstar" he always made fun of. Well, you said it. Generic. What happened to him? I saw him live in Caracas, Venezuela back in the day with Grace for Drowning and it was such an amazing experience back in the day I thought there was no one better than SW. Until I started to listen to other bands and his albums after, so sad. He lost his essence somewhere, or was he always faking it?

I may disagree with your review overall, but I do appreciate your opinion. I found it interesting, and in a lot of ways I can see where you're coming from. I definitely agree with you on Song of I. That's my least favorite song on the entire album. It's just boring. It's like a Massive Attack B-side. That said, I do really enjoy this album. I think his whole goal was to create an 80s progressive pop album as though that Era occured today. The parts you call generic, I would consider throw backs or references. I don't consider this his best work, but it stands out because you don't really see much of this sound today. I don't anyway. At any rate, I enjoyed your review. It's was honest, and made good points. I'd love to hear you review some Porcupine Tree and No Man albums.

I’ve been watching your content for about two months but didn’t knew you have put a review for to the bone, it makes me just a little sad that you did’t liked the album, but hopefully it will grow on you and also the back catalogue of SW music, especially all the Porcupine Tree stuff that i strongly recomendó to check out if you haven’t. That being said i would love to see your take on “understanding” SW or PT. Keep up with the good content man! 😀

You are either a SW fan or not. IMHO, he's never attempted anything for popularity. The only criticism I've ever had is his occasional riffs that have verged on plagiarism (think "Time Flies" vs Pink Floyd "Dogs")… As a serious Wilson (and PT) fan, I thought that was a bit cheap.

It's not a prog album if you want to listen to prog go listen pt or his previous solo album hand cannot erase,this is a new concept that steven wanted to produce for himself.He is the king of prog bro noone can doubt that he is one of the best musicians alive.

I had to downvote your video. Overall, I still can not see why you don't like "Song of I" which might have been the most creative of the songs on the album. Seemed you misspelled Pariah as well.
I wanted to make it clear though that your overall video presentation is pretty nice, but you seem to lack good musical taste.
I will suggest you stay away from further Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree works. Try instead Pain Of Salvation's albums "The Perfect Element, Part I", "Remedy Lane", and "Scarsick". which are a darker and ugly prog.

I agree there is little originality to this album. However I think you have to separate Steven Wilson as soundscape artist(Bass Communion, I.E.M) from songwriter(PT, No-Man, Blackfield, solo). Songwriting is about taking existing sounds and putting them together for songs. The only question is how effective the songs are in terms of taking you on a potent emotional journey. I think most of the songs on this album do that.

Interesting. I like every song on this, but the ones you like best are the ones I liked least. I think the title track, Nowhere Now, Refuge, People Who Eat Darkness, and Detonation are all phenomenal, very dynamic, and well crafted rock songs. Flat and directionless aren't words I'd put anywhere near them. To each their own and all that. Also love Amplifier. Great band.

This is the first time I can dance on a SW song! Permanating does not mean a thing and that's what it is! The song is party music. The outside video's are my favorite , but if I'm honest, this is a good and critical review, very professional! ☮
