We’re hearing a lot more about the Panama Canal lately regarding some presidential statements over whether the US should control it. But with cargo shipping at an all time high and still climbing, the Canal is more important than ever, and it’s also at it’s limits. For this reason there’s not just one but two new Central American canals in the works that could both speed up shipping and shift the balance of power in the world.

What about just using a rail link between 2 ports. High speed rail from Texas to California.

Changing ALL of the locks from gravity/loss to pumped/replenish would help..

If they pump extra water up to the lake will it need to be fresh?

Those nations that would most benefit from new ‘Panama Canals’ should pay for any construction.

Fun fact: If you travel the Panama Canal, east to west, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the general direction of travel is south-east. Don’t believe me? Look at the map.

An estimated 22,000 lives were lost building the Canal, not hundreds of lives

If Canada has a fleet of icebreakers the north West passage would be the most economical route.

California eliminates the need for a canal for America, in my opinion. Everything goes to New Orleans, from there trucks and trains to California, then boom, to Asia from there. It's why I say that America needs California. California doesn't need America.

Why not add pumping stations to pump some water back up the locks. It would take a lot of power, but Panama has a lot of solar power potential.

Belomor kanal was deadlier. It was basicly russian Auswitz for people extermination. Westerners have turned blind eye, because russian money, but lean on the heavier side of casualties. Not all was registered, basicly a crime scene.

6:34 yellow fever killed more people outright, with malaria coming in second. If you did survive yellow fever, you were immune thereafter. If you survived malaria, your suffering had only begun.

Prison labor and time. It will take decades but any country could afford it in that part of the world.

They aren't "being built". They are being proposed and talked about.
And water shortages are NOT an issue for the Mexico corridor, since it's not a canal at all.

Exponentially… you keep using that word… I do not think it means what you think it means.
