Red Hoop Talk EP 17: DeAnna M. Rivera, Boriken Taino Nation
DeAnna M. Rivera is a citizen of the Boriken Taino Indigenous Nation and pro bono legal consultant to the United Confederation of Taino People. DeAnna is an Assistant Professor of Writing and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California where she teaches Law & American Indian Studies and Writing Law & Social Justice. Through her previous work as the inaugural director for a Tribal legal & educational program at UCLA, DeAnna has worked with Indigenous communities on developing governance systems from constitutional conventions to educational programs and alternative dispute resolution initiatives. She is a single mom, active elementary school parent, and occasional kayaker.
