The groundbreaking rap duo, composed of MCs Phonte and Big Pooh, will hit the road come May, wrapping up their illustrious journey where it all began in Raleigh, North Carolina.
From their beginnings in the golden era of Southern hip-hop to their recent resurgence, Little Brother has made a lasting impact with their unique blend of introspective lyricism and soulful beats. Originally featuring the production wizardry of 9th Wonder, the duo’s reunion in 2018, sans their legendary producer, has still retained the heartfelt essence that fans have cherished for years. "Performing for our older fans on the Rock the Bells cruise has shown us that there’s a place in hip-hop for all ages," said Phonte in a previous interview with Rolling Stone. “It’s essential to create spaces for growth within our community.”
Kicking off on May 24 in Baltimore, MD, the tour is shaping up to be a bittersweet celebration of the legacy that Little Brother has crafted over the last two decades. From the Artscape Festival to the Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa, the duo will traverse twelve cities, culminating in a poignant show in Raleigh before heading out for four concluding performances aboard the Rock the Bells cruise in late October. “This tour is our love letter to the fans who supported us from the beginning,” Big Pooh shared on social media platform X.
Little Brother’s recent endeavors include the release of May the Lord Watch in 2019, following years of anticipation as they celebrated their influential 2003 debut, The Listening. That album showcased their lyrical dexterity and musical innovation, setting the standard for Southern hip-hop while intertwining vulnerability and everyday experiences. After a slew of new tracks like "Wish Me Well" and "Glory Glory," the duo embraced their narrative through a gripping documentary released in 2024, produced in collaboration with Rap Portraits.
Amidst the announcement of their farewell tour, Pooh has been clear about the duo’s focus going forward. “There won’t be another album,” he declared. “This is it. We’re giving everything to the Curtain Call Tour.”
