Pitchfork | April 8, 2025

Sparks Set to Ignite North America with 2025 Tour, Unveils New Single from Upcoming Album Mad!

The indomitable duo of Ron and Russell Mael, better known as Sparks, are making waves in the music scene with the announcement of a 2025 North American leg of their highly anticipated tour, following their initial run in Japan, the UK, and Europe this summer. The brothers are set to embark on their jaunt across the States, starting September 5 in Atlanta, GA, and wrapping up on September 30 in Los Angeles, CA, at the iconic Greek Theatre.

With this tour, Sparks promises to deliver their trademark blend of wit and theatricality that has garnered them a devoted global fanbase since their inception. The tour will include stops in cities like Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco, and fans can expect to hear tracks from their forthcoming album, Mad!, which arrives on May 23 under Transgressive Records.

In parallel with the tour announcement, Sparks has also unveiled a dazzling new single titled "Drowned in a Sea of Tears," accompanied by an eye-catching video directed by Ambar Navarro. This follows the earlier release of the infectious track "JanSport Backpack," which has been making waves on music platforms and has reinvigorated the band’s unique sound—one that marries catchy pop hooks with art rock sophistication.

Mad! will be the follow-up to their 2023 album, The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte, and the buzz around the new material suggests that Sparks is poised to further push the envelope in their already eclectic discography. This new era for the band is marked by their signature cleverness in lyrics and innovative instrumentation, ensuring that each performance is an unforgettable experience.

Sparks’ enduring legacy as trendsetters is undeniable, and this tour marks yet another chapter in their storied career. With head-spinning melodies and razor-sharp humor, the Mael brothers continue to challenge and redefine the boundaries of contemporary music.
