Visual artist and writer Klea McKenna, daughter of psychedelic pioneer Terence McKenna and ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison, joins Hans Busstra to reflect on her unconventional childhood, her own relationship with psychedelics, and her work preserving her parents’ legacy through the Lux Natura Archive. Known for her camera-less photography, Klea brings an artist’s perspective to questions of nature, consciousness and the stories we tell about psychedelic experiences.

One of the best thing I’ve came across YouTube. It’s such a relief to hear that his work is being handled and preserved by the best possible person. Klea’s artwork is so beautiful and it’s wonder to see celebrate her father’s work in such elegant ways. ❤

Jiddu Krishnamurti once said in Ending of Time the same thing, that "the universe is the mind, at least part of it, nature is the mind". So maybe in the end it idealism is not the right answer, but the finger is pointing right direction. 🙂

What a pleasant, informative, personal, all around great interview with some wonderful expansion right where it was needed. Both calming and intriguing personalities and it was great to feel you relax into each other and share the enjoyment with which so many of us hold from her father and similar experiences. Thanks for this.
I loved the ethical dillema he faced around catching butterflies. I think if you haven't felt major shame for killing bugs or eating meat – you haven't done enough my friend 😂 alas, we all cannot hold that line for long and i wouldn't fault him for the butterflies anymore than i do for my sushi and steak addiction. Funny life and dream blunt rotation.

41:21 Oh that is a great point as well as an important endeavour!
His words should definitely reach more people, and different kinds of people, than just 'the psychedic crowd'.

Hearing Terence through his daughter’s eyes hits different. He made a whole generation brave enough to ask the weird questions.

10:55 because it IS that way. It's not just a "view" of nature as though it's some kind of belief system. When you watch it all, you'll see it yourself. The birds go chasing each other when the territory is governed by certain ones and unapproved parties come into the airspace, even of the same species. The squirrels are flirting, the dragonflies are on the hunt, the spiders are exploring and constantly handling the curve balls of having their grocery bags destroyed by passers-by, the mushrooms even are trying to outcompete each other with which spores take over and produce the fruiting bodies you see. The trees are influencing what the light does and who gets that food down under the canopy. Just slow down enough and come to understand the systems at play, recognize the languages spoken, be aware of the diversity around. It's insane, even in the rather mudane seeming areas, when you really get low to the ground and stay still long enough to hum to the swarming flyers during golden hour and witness their flight behavior change when you find that one note that makes 'em go haywire and spread out.

We have Terrence's own words about the meat locker trip, he describes parts of it in reasonable detail. From his description, it affected him profoundly because he seemed to be baffled by the question of the meaning of this and what it was about.
