We cut this field recording with Oil Derek in a cabin buried somewhere in the woods of North Carolina, the whole place lit by firelight and little else. Outside, the trees stood black and listening. Inside, Mat “Twain” Davidson brought something almost sacred into the room. A sound that seemed less played than summoned. An almost perfect harmony between the both of them.

the hawk and the buzzard 
both watch the rabbit
they both talk together
of the meals on display

the buzzard hangs patient
hawk wants to grab it
and the sun sets soon
to close the day

the hawk starts a dive
talons extended
but the rabbit is wise
when strange shadows are seen

hawk’s neck breaks
misjudging the branches
and there rests a red bird
to softly sing

always we wander
‘tween love and loneliness
always we’ll ponder
why this might be
just to live
an act of love
we’re all born showing this
and to die may be the gift
before the dream

how peaceful the slumber
how happy the waking
for death is only a dream
