It's debatable that the diseases were eradicated – no vaccination means there is still every likelihood one can contract which ever – both measles and polio (etc) are still present and in circulation for instance – they're still with us but just controlled through vaccines.

I wish you all who are so interested in why Natalie, Thump, and others would acquaint yourselves with contemporary psychoanalytically oriented theories because they apply in this drama. For instance I imagine Natalie as love starved as a child. If she did feel love it was only if she pleased those who brought her up. She is desperately repeating her childhood experience. I would predict that if T could truly love her unconditionally, she would flee. She needs to literally and figuratively run after him. Some would call it “love bombing.” I don’t consider her a stalker yet but do see her as obsessed. Also, being a part of his life gives her self-esteem – makes her feel important. Actually they are a good match for now because there are boundaries for both. Many in my field would call her borderline. Her grasp on reality is problematic but I don’t see danger yet. When the relationship ends Natalie will most likely become depressed – maybe she will harm herself. There is a chance that she will feel rage to ward off the depression in which case who knows? All that i have said is just my opinion based on my experience as a therapist for 40 years. I hope it helps.
