40 Years Later: The Untold Story of Cliff Burton
September 27, 1986: Metallica’s Cliff Burton won a card game for the best bunk on the tour bus. Hours later, he was gone. Forty years on, this Rock Feed special episode tells the whole story: the kid who picked up the bass for his brother, the band that moved 400 miles to get him, the night in Sweden, the black ice nobody could find, and the legacy fans still honor at the side of the road.
Rest in peace, Cliff Burton (1962–1986).

Every time I’d see his dad talking about him, I’d tear up. Still do.

Nice tribute; just gonna give a Shout Out to Connie Burton, the last of the clan, who passed away this year. 🥲
Also dudo, I know you're a big Pro-Wrestling fan, so I'm also gonna give a massive Shout Out to Ben Satterly, aka 'The Bastard' PAC/Neville. RIP. Dying on Cliff's 40th… maaan, my heart is a mess. 😥

Before Jason Newsted joined John Marshall also played bass for the Canadian shows, he was the lead guitarist of Metal Church who were the opening band so he was playing two full gigs for a few shows. I saw the first show after Cliff's death in Vancouver, they let us use the cancelled Ozzy/Metallica tickets, they were just $35 at the time. John also covered for James after the Montreal pyro incident, and he was Kirk's guitar tech during the Ride The Lighting tour.
Fun Fact: The lead singer for Trauma, Brian Allen, is now the lead singer for Metal Church. It comes in useful if you ever play the Rock Edition of '6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon'.

He inspired me to play bass.
It’s weird to me that they leave picks tho, as he was a master of the finger bass technique.
RIP

Cliff was a bloody sacrifice for Metallica. They recruited him and even moved near his home. Kirk pulled the ace. End of story 😢😢😢

Ii think Cliff had premonitions of his drath and thats what may have inspired him to write Trapped Under Ice cuz thats what it would look like under thw glass, especially if he only saw quick flashes of it the way things like that tend to be.
