The proliferation of Windows 95 & AOL mainstreaming computers to the "dumb masses" was the OFFICIAL end of the glory days of microcomputing, and we are paying a hefty price for it and will likely continue to. I now work in an industry of supposed "computer people" who don't know their asses from holes in the ground, see low-IQ individuals walking around with what once would have been a supercomputer in their hands, with the SUM OF MAN'S KNOWLEDGE ACCESSIBLE WITH A FEW KEY PRESSES, dumber than ever. I miss when there was a barrier of entry for computing. End "grumpy old man" rant of the day.

The internet went from "All the information you ever wanted to know, but couldn't find, to. If you pay a subscription "we promise to maybe" give you what your looking for." which ends up being another PAYWALL. Max corp profits for the ignorant and the educated.

Google+ feels like it was a fever dream… also, fun fact – I first learned HTML from Neopets, which I later found out was owned by the Scientologists, so… thanks, I guess? 😅

I went online for the first time in 1996 while in college. Yahoo was a text based browser. I stood at the precipice of the dawn of tomorrow not knowing where we would be today. Simpler times.

Saying facebook "brought" whatsapp is just disgusting and a disgrace to the original creators.
ZuckerSlop shouldn't reach such entitlement.

I don't think the internet offers any benefit to society anymore. We've so thoroughly destroyed anything positive it may have done at this point that it'd be better to just nuke it all completely.

What I discovered for the first time… designing and using my own stuff. Aka Claude codes simple interactive websites for me to teach science to my daughter. I upload it on github and they have access anywhere. Stupid simple but something I didn’t have time for before.
