    How do the have such a music memory? I mean I have a steel trap mind and if I hear the first few notes of a long published song – yes. But If you have hundreds of clients with thousands of songs, how do you keep that in memory?

    I've told everyone for years, the only people making money most of the time is the promotors, studios, who ever is promising returns or hopeful returns..In other words, a lot of these people {not all }. live of the dreams of the hopes of musicians…..again I said, not all of these people are crooks…

    When I was 14, my old grunge band Clockworks End, got a show at studio 7 in seattle, through this company called Gorilla music, we sold all of the tickets, it was PACKED, such a great show. We only took home about 41$ of it after it was said and done xD It was an experience at least haha

    The phenomena "Escalation of commitment" could be of interest as well.

    tldr; Escalation of commitment refers to the tendency to continue investing in a decision or project despite evidence of its failure, due to prior investments of time, money, or resources.

    This was done and still is on a more massive scale at apollo thearter Harlem. The con people into selling busliads of tickets, who ever has the biggest crowd gets the most applause and so called wins. A big scam

    13:06 – TAXI
    Here's my real-world experience with TAXI.
    I was a member for 2 years from 2008-2010. (this is how I kicked off my licensing career, but then no longer was a member as I didn't need it)
    It worked great for me. I definitely had more submissions that were rejected than accepted/passed along (but I feel like that's kind of the nature of submitting music/auditioning for stuff in general – most of the time you'll hear "no"). But those tracks that were passed along were genuine, real companies that I still work with today. The connections I made through TAXI have been 15+ year friendships and co-writers that I still work with now.
    And 80% of the deals I've made and licenses I still have with music libraries either came directly from a TAXI forward or because of a TAXI connection.

    For me – it was 100% worth it.
    For others – possibly not.

    The problem is, in my opinion of course, and as you rightfully pointed out – the listings they offer can be vague. Often the feedback you get (from TAXI themselves) can be quite rushed/short/vague and they don't tell you where/how you SHOULD pitch your music which in my mind is a missed opportunity. They also will NEVER tell you outright that your music sucks/stinks and you should probably consider another career option – which if I'm 100% honest likely 80%+ of their membership needs to hear.

    HOWEVER – the resources they provide and the free networking opportunities that they host (a huge in-person event in LA every year is the biggest/best) does in fact allow users, if they are smart/savvy, a way to actually improve their songwriting, their mixing, their promotion/networking etc.
    So in that regard – I can see it as they pitch it: as a "learning opportunity". But if we're being completely honest, again, 80%+ of their membership just doesn't have and will never have what it takes to have a career in music. (in any way/shape/form)

    Now – that's not to say people can't make music for the sake of the love of the art itself…but you're right, it's a bit of a "feeding the dream" type business. (almost more than the legitimate A&R connector that it is).

    So there it is. I'm thankful that I used it for the opportunity it was. I'm thankful that I had a musical education and years of experience before I joined TAXI so that I could actually take advantage of the opportunities presented to me. Would I recommend it to everyone – no.

    I get these ever so often in my spam-folder. as I am naturally suspicious of anyone accrediting my musical skills, I turned to 'vi.be'. they are a an online music magazine and they offer advice to novice musicians. they told me it was most likely a scam and not to trust it, explaining that most of the time when people are truly interested in your music, they will offer you money, rather than charge you. seems only logical, when you think about it.
