12 Of The Most Important Cities In History – And Why They Fell From The Top

Weird History | January 2, 2026

In ancient times, the most powerful and influential cities in the world were located primarily in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Places like Alexandria, Jericho, and Carthage once were thought to be as influential or powerful as cities like London, Tokyo, or Washington, DC, are today. By the 21st century, the majority of cities that were military, economic, and religious powers hundreds or thousands of years ago no longer have that kind of influence. Although some of the powerful ancient cities like Alexandria and Baghdad do still exist, many more of them have been forgotten or left in ruins.

If government and unions are going to exist, they should exist to extinguish or minimize piracy. If they don't, they are the pirates and should be acted against by the people. If the people aren't going to be ever vigilant with the human history we have, they deserve what they get. The worst of us always aim to ruin it for the rest of us. Face your bullies or suffer them

Fun fact y’all may not know: the book of Daniel in the Holy Bible is a history of the Israelites in Babylon as well as a book of prophecy. That’s awesome, but not the focus of this comment. Did you know that one chapter in the book of Daniel was NOT written by Daniel? Daniel chapter 4 was written by none other than King Nebuchadnezzar himself! This was after his stint as a four-footed beast of the field. God’s Word is awesome

This one failed miserably for not even bothering to mention the greatest and most prominent city of all and the hub of the world at its peak: Constantinople. Like Wth? And it's B.C. not "BCE."

Why don't you mention single city located in the Indian Peninsula, such as Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro, Vijayanagar, Hampi, and all the cities constructed by the Mauryas and Cholas?
