With AI progressing by leaps and bounds and several commercial humanoid robots developing fast, both knowledge jobs and manual labor jobs are on the edge of a major disruption. What will people do for work when robots can do all the work for far cheaper? Why bother learning anything when AI devices can give you any answer you need at any moment? And what kind of future are we heading toward?

The problem in this current state of the world is how the education system planned for tech like Iphones and computers to revolutionize how we think. Instead it's brain washing all of us.

Honestly, I think learning stuff is more important now than ever, and it only gets more and more important. The reason is what happens in the later section of the video – automation.
The first jobs to go are the ones most easily automated. It may be harder to justify the learning of specific knowledge that is just readily available on wikipedia and we do perhaps need to reconsider what kinds of knowledge our kids need to learn, but think of it like training an AI. In order for an AI to learn stuff it needs to be fed a lot of simple repetitive things to learn concepts.
The human brain is not an AI but we do need to have a lot of internal knowledge in order to think about stuff and I don't know about you but I'm not ready to outsource my thinking to AI just yet.
As for the future of economics I'm both optimistic and realistic, it will be a painfull transition but widespread poverty tends to lead to chaos and chaos is very bad for business. So I think that some change to our economic system will be necessary and basic income is currently the best idea.

It's unlikely that any more progress will be made. I know you "dont believe" in generational theory, but the cycle is here, now. There is a 100% chance of either or both another American civil war and/or WWIII in the next twelve months. Regardless of the outcome, this next election will start a war, no ifs , ands or buts. You don't have to believe in something for Its predictions to bear fruit.

The question in the future would not be WHY even learn things, but HOW to learn things. You think the corporate overlords would allow free distribution of information that would give people the weapon to question them?

"Why would anyone want to work without money?" Asks the creative. 🤦♂️
Remember when they asked us in high school what we'd want to do IF money wasn't a factor? And we all had to give up on those passions/dreams when we realized money IS a factor?
Well Joe, what if it really wasn't? Would you not want to pursue your passions? Create art? Entertain people? Travel? Try out new hobbies? Spend time with and help your family, friends, and community?

14:24 Is the accumulation of wealth really innate or is it part of our culture? So drilled into us that we can't imagine a world without it? Really, what's the point of hording, when literally ANYTHING you can imagine can be materialized for you at your fingertips? Now it's starting to sound more like a disorder than a survival strategy.

Who says that the proclivity to acquire things or hoard is natural? The more we understand about value the fewer things we need. Star Trek economics isn't naive, it's hopeful.

As a former truck driver and loader, I have sat down and figured out how this work of loading and unloading trucks as well as restock stores overnight could easily be done by several types of robots. Humanoid robots would have no place in that particular work force.

I remember realizing in my late teens if people lived to be 1000 that there would be be two people that owned 98% of everything so maybe if we want more equality, maybe we should have shorter lifespans Because paying people minimum wage while owning the world’s largest yacht seems to be OK with everybody

In the US anyway; I believe we are going to go the way of Idiocracy vs the way of StarTrek.
Look at modern media right now and the push to make us think a certain way for political and personal gain.
That will never change with the current state of our country.

18:44 I’m no engineer, but the fact that the robot used the word “uhh” in its sentence is fascinating and terrifying! Was it programmed to use filler words, or was it actually trying to process what it was saying like a human would??

I imagine the worlds of Idiocracy and WALL-E have an allowance for humans, and they use this money how they want, which explains why they are bombarded by advertisements, so the ads "push" people where to spend their money. True, in Idiocracy, they do have jobs, so they might get paid for what they do, but do they really do a "good" job??
Back in the 80s, something in the US changed… Monopolies became "OKAY". No longer do big companies have to disband if they control too much! So, I don't doubt one day everything will be owned by Disney/Pepsi/Facebook, unless we limit the power of conglomerates again (but probably not, unfortunately).
Kings didn't need to be literate, and thanks to accessible information on every smart phone, kids don't need to read either… Want to know about anything, they just click on the video and listen to whatever the video talks about. I doubt doubt this is the reason why there are so many Flat- Earthers and anti-vaxers now. Just watch a video, and the video will "tell you" what to believe! Done and done!
I DO believe knowledge is power, and the higher your ability to think critically, the easier it is to sniff out all the BS that's out there! I don't have faith that people who let a video tell them what to believe will be able to make sense of things, and will probably fall victim to the "snake-oil" politician that promises everything is going to be wonderful, just vote for me, but people just watched the video! The people didn't "learn" about the many bankruptcies the politician filed, or how many employees he's cheated out of money. There was no "research" into anything, the people just watched the video, and "Oh, so that's the total truth, now I know everything about that subject, that video explained it ALL!"
So, I totally understand the question, "Why even learn things anymore?" I mean, if you have a battery charger and working WI-FI, I'm sure any problem you have in the moment, there's an APP for that!
Having ONE answer from a video is not learning… It reminds me of those "worksheets" during movies you would get in school. You watch the movie, and you fill in the blank in the sentence when you hear the sentence during the movie. This isn't learning, this is regurgitation. Anyone's short term memory can work well enough to fill in a worksheet during a movie, but it's not going to stay in their memory, they won't "learn it".
Although, I do come back to the documentary Idiocracy… After 500 years of unchecked population growth, never ending advertising, and conglomerates growing to own almost everything, why wouldn't a country end up having a President named Dwayne Elizondo "Mountain Dew" Herbert Camacho? He came out onto the floor with an automatic machine gun, awesome epic theme music, and he's wearing the US flag for a half-blazer!
What Entertainment! What fun, and with that automatic rifle, what a Patriotic protector!! I think if we really do end up voting for "snake-oil" salesmen politicians, (too late?), then the country deserves to become this Idiocracy world…
I really hope this doesn't happen, and we INSTEAD focus more on literacy, science, logic, and critical thinking skills for our future… Because, as soon as the Earth get's hit by a huge coronal mass ejection from the Sun, that battery charger and WI-FI isn't going to work, and they don't make an APP that charges a phone or provides internet without working electricity.
When the power grid goes down, would you rather have a really good smart phone, OR a really smart person?? I'm going to go for the person who "learns things"!

I love how, earlier in the video, he says he doesn’t understand why Star Treks lack of money works, but then perfectly explains why it works 23:51 here. Seeking knowledge and being curious. That’s why, at least the part they show us in the show, the lack of money works in Star Trek (along with the synthesizer, at least 😅 that’s a big part of it)

Thought provoking. I see no possibility of avoiding the total collapse of global economy. Which is honestly just an organised arms race. It’s enlightening to realise that the strongest economy is also overwhelmingly the most militarily powerful one and that it has no real interest outside of its own ambition for global control. The depletion of resources will push an isolationist agenda through the whole structure and outright war between nations. That’s the first phase. Which will go on for decades and drive economies to be more and more focused on military expenditure. Robotics, space X, electric cars are just expensive distractions that are being employed to keep people hopeful. They are not and will never be environmentally or economically viable except to the extent that they advance regional military capability. Elon Musk is spending money mainly provided by the US government. I hope that humanity discovers some deeper existential value. I don’t know what that would be but it must overcome the fear of death and the need to be distracted from that fear by fantasies of heroism ie. control and dominion over others. Perhaps technology can advance this utopian concept. Massive advances in neurotechnology are being made that may might redirect human consciousness in a less destructive direction. At present the scramble for power makes this appear unlikely not least because the availability of honest information is hobbled by the political system that seeks to undermine the best of human nature rather than propagate humanities fundamental desires for contentment and peace. It is not by happenstance that we experience patience and peace locally and yet are conditioned to believe that humans are untrustworthy and selfish.

The premise of Star Trek, is, more or less, summed up by two events that were required to happen for Earth becoming the Utopia.
a) A devastating World War. And not devastating in the sense of WWII, but devastating in the sense of every corner of the world being part of that war and governments crumbled under the force of other organisations rising to power, with a total war breaking out. Not to mention the Eugenic Wars that kinda happened before that WWIII.
b) The invention of a FTL-drive combined with the arrival of a benevolent more technologically advanced species.
Though I'd argue that the absolute total war that devastated the entire Earth might be the main reason for an extreme global ethics change.
