I think this is the first Trainwreckords-covered album I legit want to buy now. Not even ironically, I liked all of these songs except Edge of a Revolution (which just sounds like "Disturbed but with less effort"). EDIT: …nope, not even Flo Rida is enough to dissuade me.

What Are You Waiting For? sounds like a Christian song. I'm a Christian myself and I will staunchly defend the fact that some Christian music is among the best music out there. Still, I agree with Todd that the vast majority of commercial Christian music is predictable, sanitised and most emotional content is watered down to be so safe or generic that it's largely unrelatable. There's something about What Are You Waiting For? that reminds me of that. It's clearly supposed to have a surge of inspiration or desperation from the chord structure and arrangement, but it feels a little too polished to hit the way it wants to. Never thought I'd put Nickelback's music in that bucket, but here we are.

I haven't paid any attention to Nickelback since Rockstar (and that was against my will) but I'm starting to quite like that Million Miles an Hour song purely off the back of this video

So, weird thing – when Todd started laughing at that 'kinda funky' tune, I legit was like 'that does not sound too bad', which honestly is not too weird to me – a lot of songs from his worst of 2010-14 lists, I've actually added to my playlists. So, I looked it up, and Here's the thing about "She keeps me up" that Im surprised no one, not even Todd, mentions – this song is so poorly mixed, you'd be forgiven to think its made by some novice garage band. The way Bass is tuned over scale is abhorent. It sounds like issue with speakers, but no, I assure you – it's the song that is mixed with all the grace of yt bass boosted remix…

Shoutout to whoever made the "Every artist has" meme for getting one of the hardest, most genuine laughs out of me in ages by giving GOAT status to Dark Horse, the album where the band actually first went down the No Fixed Address path

i honestly feel so bad for despising Nickelback’s music because as much as I really do not think it is good at all, I think chad kroeger seems like such a well-intentioned guy and I don’t want to wish on his downfall in any capacity

0:38 Warn me before you do this again. Jesus, my ears want to sue you for torture.

Living in a world where bands like Thin White Rope had to call it a day for being too esoteric, but god-awful shit like Nickelbarf sells millions to muffin-heads, it really isn’t enjoyable.

(TL; DR: bandwagon Nickleback jokes are lame, but man is that some dreadful sounding music.)

The hate comments/jokes are silly. Even worse, they are lazy. I expect so, so much more from Fey. I don't think she wrote that line, it being from a show she merely acted on, but regardless she should have straight up refused to say it. Talk about lame. And Todd is right: it didn't even make sense. Nickleback were not, by any calculation, a one-hit wonder.

That all said, man oh man do I hate those song clips he played. The one he asked "am I wrong or does this not suck?" about…he was very wrong. I don't even know how to describe that guitar sound other than worst thing ever.

But they certainly weren't alone. So many 2010-ish rock bands had that sound. And it's just so, so horrible. It could very well be 100% synthesizer and we'd never know the difference, that's how far removed it sounds from the idea of plugging a guitar into an amp and pressing record. I have talked, railed, ranted about that guitar sound to the point people have asked me to calm down. But those songs are all so generic, it was hard to think of a specific example. Thanks to this video, I at least have a concrete go-to. "Million Miles An Hour," by Nickleback.

Good LORD, do I hate that guitar sound. It is the opposite of soul. It's like they systematically deracinated everything that makes guitar the king of instruments, stripping away any chance of spontaneity or amp character, and added distortion literally through a computer program. I find it hard to believe that sound is made by a guitar pick hitting strings. It's hard to believe a guitar was even in the building. I'm almost glad Hendrix and Stevie Ray died, because at least they never had to hear THAT.

Again, though, Nickleback wasn't the only offender. All those bands sounded like that back then. People can shit-talk Jack White and the Strokes and those guys all they want, saying they're too "retro" or whatever, but those songs at least sound like GUITARS.

Edit: I actually went and listened to the full song. It's the sound of a culture in its death throes. I felt like Jesus asking my God why He had forsaken me. It's just so RELENTLESSLY horrible. There's this "guitar solo" that literally IS a synthesizer; I don't see how they could even try to deny it. That chord thing that repeats throughout almost made me want to never listen to music again. It's a literal ATTROCITY of sound. I had visions of book burnings and gray-faced ghouls throwing Van Gogh paintings into a river of bile. I heard Mallory Knox shouting "You killed LIFE!"

If I hadn't played "Last Night" immediately after, I doubt I'd've had the strength to write this.
