T1J | October 31, 2024

Have you noticed how often Tina Fey brings up race in her work? It’s kind of awkward.

Im 4 years late, but Liz Lemon’s character is meant to be a parody of the liberal leaning white woman who thinks she’s just a quirky, nerdy, morally good person, just because she looks innocent and wears glasses like her character in mean girls. But she’s actually a high school bully, an asshole boss, secretly votes republican when she presents herself as democrat (lol) and is racist af. There’s so many white women who are exactly like this, but go to sleep patting themselves on the back.

White liberals use racial humor ironically, that's how they justify it. I have an aunt who is like this. She works at the school board, which had an anti-racism initiative. She wore the an anti-racism button from this initiative, on her coat for the entire winter, like it was a shield of protection. While wearing this button she dropped many "ironic" racial jokes. Her self-awareness is low … that said, 30 Rock is funny. But I don't harbor any White guilt, so I can enjoy the jokes unironically

Look I’m not black so I will never know what it’s like to live life as a black man. I am however person of color so I can appreciate most attempts of genuine malice. I know it was not your intent as you mentioned plenary of times in your video. However, Tina in all her work has also stereo typed all cliches that exist. The privileged white male in Jack. The moronic faith centric southern red neck in Kenneth. An over the top privileged stereo typical grasping for stardom white actress in Jenna. So I’m confused in what your point is? Anything can be twisted anyway you need it to be? Racism exists in this world. Should it be ignored in works of art and film?

1:15. The same joke was used in Search Party when the blonde woman was cast as a latina woman. Then as her own best friend who is part Middle Eastern. I think the joke was better in Search Party because it showed how ridiculous casting is to cast a white person as a person of another race. The actress herself was so desperate for a role and had guilt about playing such a role.

What I liked about The native American character was that her parents were rolling their eyes the whole time and it had this "you're adopted" The Jerk vibe.

Hopefully, she hired more black writers than there were cast members, but as an autistic person, I didn't get any representation in this show or most shows in wrioting or acting even when there is an autistic character. And we are NOT portrayed well. I simply assumed the black writers wrote certain jokes. TBH, none of the material is deep . . .it's ALL jokes. It's not a lesson or deep character show for any of the characters.

The show obviously went way over your head. And your criticism seems to be that someone who wasn't black mayday show with humor about race in it.. extremely progressive humor. In one of the shows with the most main cast Black characters in television history. But hey she's white and liberal and that bothers you. ….

Empathy in the context of historical crimes against an identity your ancestors specifically constructed to be exploited for its labour, and you are surrounded by the consequences of this on a daily basis?
    Psh just pretend you're blind!

I think we would need to know what the writer's room was like in 30 Rock to draw real conclusions

Tracy had to have had input on Tracy, and there were a number of black writers in the writer's room if I recall

So like, was Twofer a gag that Tina came up with? Because if he's an expression of the black writers on the show and how they feel they are treated by their peers, that's a whole different thing than if Tina just thought being racist to an "assimilated" black man was a funny joke (what's worse is Twofer would be a better joke if it wasn't racist because you setup for the expected racist comment on his race and then flip to something else)

You didn't mention the Black she went on that date with who overtly blackmails her with "the race card" when their date doesn't work out because he's a weirdo

why cant white people talk about race though?

is it specifically white people that cant talk about race?

because if they cant and the only reason they cant is their skin colour then you might be the racist 😂

I like always assumed a good amount of tracys racial jokes were Donald Glover influenced. Like Tracy handing Tina a physical race card just feels so much like a Donald Glover joke to me
