Tome | October 28, 2024

Hasil Adkins (1937-2005), a wild rocker from Boone County, West Virginia, who was already a punk in the 1950’s, trying to kill rock’n’roll. He blended rockabilly into his unique DIY music, founding psychobilly and leaving a lasting global influence through his eccentric performances and numerous cover versions of his songs. HASIL is a god. Theres an interesting phenomena occurring in Los Angeles of a kind of 70's country revival, not as wild and unruly as Hasil or Ledegendary Stardust Cowboy or most country acts you feature on your amazing show, in the late 90's and early 2000's there was a band that embodied the outlaw energy of past country stars. The last of its kind. Heartbroken and hellbent, poetic and piss on your face. THE ABIGAILS.!!!!!!!!! PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON THEM. WE'RE ALL ASKING WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!

Hasil was my rockin' idol back in early 90's, loved so much his music that in 93' I flew from Europe to find him, as a record mentioned he was still living in Madison WA, I managed to find him and stayed at his shack for almost a week! He drove me around to many of his exes as I was the living proof he was famous in Europe!!

I have been fascinated with eccentrics, outlaws and rock and roll my whole life and I don't know how I never heard of these characters and bands. You have earned my subscription, thank you sir.

I miss Hasil, tragic and pointless loss when he was murdered. I went to his place once when he was scheduled to play a friend’s club in Boone and didn’t show up. The whole thing seemed surreal as he completely ignored us and just sat watching tv and chain smoking cigarettes. Needless to say that the opening act had to play the whole show.😅

Great job on this video! I’m a huge Hasil fan and own one of his old guitars and other memorabilia. Our dog is named Hasil, too. Haha. Sadly I never saw him play live. Terrific mini documentary!

I dunno, I've always considered Robert Johnson the original punk. Wandering around the south on foot, sleeping in doorways, getting beat up by the cops steady, playing dives for booze and food. Then theres the dark gothic rumors he encouraged, crazy abrasive stuff for the 1930's. It took music so many decades to surpass his blueprint, and I think he was on to concepts that didnt become common untill the 90's.

My first experience with Hasil Adkins was in a little independent horror film called "Die You Zombie Bastards". I immediately looked up all his music and fell in love with his sound and insanity

Gewd $hït mang , unsurprisingly though you failed to mention Rob Rodriguez using no mo hot dogs in his film Roadracers . And as Groucho said of Harpo : "one like that is worth three ordinary ones" .
