As an non-american I knew the reservations were places of struggle, but this? How can this be allowed? No water or power? Shame America.

What really stood out to me was how much this history challenges the assumptions we often inherit about ancient civilizations. The details about everyday life, sanitation, agriculture, and social organization make it clear that there was far more complexity and ingenuity here than the usual simplified picture suggests. And if the evidence about Ahuitzotl’s tomb develops further, that could make this story even more fascinating. The narration and presentation made the whole subject feel less like a distant history lesson and more like an investigation into a world that still has unanswered questions.

How come the Aztecs were so smart about cleanliness and making great cities, but would murder their own people for whatever they wanted from their Gods (Demons)!!! It still plagues me that such a great civilization as the Aztecs, who knew so much about oral hygiene and physical cleanliness and keeping their water clean and their hair clean, etc., could kill their own people or people they trapped because they seemed so civilized and advanced, except for their murderous ways for their gods or I say Demons) The evil sacrifices, with all they knew- they should have known that was evil?

I've read an enormous amount of letters and correspondence paper around this time and the one that is abundantly clear is that the Native Americans were not civilised nor were they nature loving hippies as Hollywood depicts. They were savage as fuck, in some cases almost as bad as the Azteks. They were flaying people and drying out their human skins, using skulls as bowls and enslaving rival tribes and clans. They were not a humble people but a fierce and honour based people, they lived a warrior culture and so the gore and the gruesome things we know of the ancient past can be attributed to them. They sacrificed and tortured people. They sold rival families captured in war and enslaved their children. The whole Blooding of a new warrior meant that they would have to go kill someone and either scalp them or rip their organs out. I really wish we didn't selectively hide history, because even though the accounts I read were horrifying it is perfectly normal within that environment and I would rather see their courage and bravery depicted properly than to constantly get the Hollwood narrative that they were just some hippies smoking weed, living within the balance of nature which they absolutely didn't do.

People look at me quizzically when I tell them I’m mixed Native American – Mayan mix or “mestizo.” Native Americans extend to the whole continent, not just the US and Canada.

My daughters are native Americans on their mother's side, thankfully they don't live on their tribes local reservation, there have always been problems up there (mainly tied to drugs/alcohol addiction). I'm also thankful they get tribal healthcare and the opportunity for free college. 🙏

Look up the stores of RedTail. There is tons of archeological art finds featuring this epic character from the assorted river pyramid cities across the Eastern half is the US. And also a popular game involving throwing spears at pucks in this same culture. But most Americans have never seen this stuff even though it was so widespread fairly recently

No horses, no domesticate-able animals [turkeys?], no draft animals [llamas?], how Native Americans did life is pretty fascinating.

The possibility that they may have found Ahuitzotl’s tomb is wild, but honestly the everyday Aztec details fascinated me just as much. The sanitation and hygiene section especially cuts straight through the lazy idea that these societies were somehow “primitive.” I’ve been chasing overlooked history for my own little channel, so this kind of thing sends me straight down a rabbit hole. Really liked how you balanced the famous names with how ordinary people actually lived..
