The Nightmare Of Being A Medic On D-Day
American soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6th, 1944 and the nature of their mission meant that casualties would be piling up fast. Managing that situation would fall largely to combat medics who were rushed through training, parachuted into a war zone, targeted by enemy troops, and forced to work with whatever equipment they could find in the chaos of Omaha Beach .
On this episode of Weird History, we take a look at what the D-Day invasion was like for the combat medics who ran headfirst into the most dangerous parts of the battle to save the wounded.
Do you think you could have done the job of a D-Day combat medic? Let us know in the comments!

During Pearl Harbor, nurses used lipstick to perform triage.

That church was also respected on both sides. No fire arms were allowed, no matter what side you were on. Pretty good story if you look into it

I heard that thanks to Penicillin – which was still a secret – no Allies injured on D-Day died from infection. Many would, in the past, succumb to infection despite starting to recover from their injuries.
The US was offered information from the other Allies on how best to land safely. They didn't listen – their generals didn't want to believe that their plans weren't good. Many Americans died that didn't have to.

The play at 2:49 is a perfect set up for an option play with a younger qb. If Nichols would have pitched the ball to a 20 year younger Rodgers that would have been a td or at least down on the 1.

Honestly it's disgusting that all of these black war heroes never got the appreciation they deserved.

No blacks were awarded for their sacrifice in D-Day even to this day only goes to show how the US politicians never cared at all.

I cannot watch or listen anything regarding D-Day without crying. Just incredulous bravery to run into a storm of bullet fire and artillery explosion. The thought alone I crumble under the sheer heroism in action as those who forged ahead, those held the line, and the support that kept then going forward.
God rest all their souls 🙏🏾

The fact that dark skin troops weren’t given the same honors as the light skin troops is infuriating. They signed up to serve, fight, and most likely die for America, but the awards earned for their sacrifices were denied.

-Training: nothing to do.
-waiting on weather: nothing to do.
-transporting to the beaches: nothing to do.
-hitting the beach: FUCK FUCK FUCK TO MUCH TO DO

Seems as though they would abandon all that and grab the nearest gun and try to advance up the beach with the rest of them. Idk.

I can’t imagine being a medic in WWII, being thrown into the crucible of war with little more than basic first aid knowledge 😳

You would think after all that you would have the american and rest of the world despise the NAtionalsozZalistische deutsche arbeiterpartei, but here we are. We got politician being one, harboring some, backing some. That whole party transformed into, weirdly enough into the "land promised 3000 yrs ago people". I am sure if social media existed during WW2 times, US would have never won the war.
