Knock, knock. It’s the Mary Wallopers, y’all. This live recording of “The Big Mixer” is available for your viewing pleasure on Western AF’s YT page.

This duo from Dundalk, Ireland, brings the heat with traditional folk, punk, ballads, and the hard edges of ordinary life. They sing about work, politics, home, history, and the strange business of being alive. And there was no better place to shoot it than the Bang Bang Café in Dublin.

It was almost a sin to miss these boys during our first trip to Ireland. This shoot came together last minute, like pulling a burned pie out of the oven, we almost dropped the ball. Charles and Andrew were both headed in opposite directions from us around Dublin, but they moved heaven, hell, and their own schedules to make it work. A major salute to them and their team for making it happen.

A special thanks to Cian Lawless for helping us bring this shoot together. And cheers to Cillian Lawless, owner of the Bang Bang, for opening the shop for us after hours, welcoming us in, and making us some tea. That’s the kind of kindness you remember and the kind of place where you can still find it.
