The endless legacy of Spicy McHaggis (Dropkick Murphys)

Spicy McHaggis is the name of a Dropkick Murphys song, but also the nickname of their bagpiper Robbie Medeiros, from 2000 to 2003. Despite only being in the band for three years, the legend of the song and the piper remains till this day.
The name comes from when the band was touring in Scotland, after seeing a McDonalds sign. They thought Spicy McHaggis was a good name for a Scottish sandwich, but later they used it to name the new bagpiper and as an inspiration to the song.
Spread far and wide, its video clip a humorous spectacle that traversed the globe during the early days of internet piracy.
During this performance, girls would go onstage and dance around Spicy, despite him being static.
He also graced the stage as the bagpiper in the iconic live DVD filmed on St. Patrick’s Day in 2002, etching his name in the band’s legacy.
