Classic Album Review | October 6, 2024

Welcome to the second part of TEN BANDS I F**KING HATE where I look at groups that I dislike to loathe and why I dislike them. Not for the feint of heart – or U2 fans for that matter.

I couldn't agree with you more and this is my new favorite (I thought you were much older than me, but from your Uni experiences and seeing Bon Jovi first, I think you are a few years younger; a month into college in 1980 I saw Queen, though Violent Femmes, an unknown then, played my welcome week show at college). I too can't stand reggae!

However, this is a very Brit list (and unlike those below saying "Suede" was good though (they weren't), and I would add my 3 most hated bands to the list (2 US):

    The Doors.
    The Grateful Dead.
    Led Zeppelin.

Bonjour de la France 😊. Pourquoi tant de haine 😂😂😂. Chacun a ses goûts musicaux. J'aime presque tout sauf le rap , l'ambient , l'electro , le black métal et la techno 😂. Vous les anglo-saxons , vous avez cette expression it's not my cup of tea😂😂.
    Au revoir 😊

There are a few bands in the list that I don't particularly like, but honestly, the first thing that came to my mind when I watched the video was a Bob Dylan quote:
    Come mothers and fathers
    Throughout the land
    And don't criticize
    What you can't understand

First time checking this out. I saw guns n roses at their peak and you're right about the fact they were about a Era moreso than being a long term rock influence.
Anyone who doesn't like bon jovi seems pretty rational to me so I will check out some future opinions since most of these were spot on!

LOL. Oasis overrated? Their songs stand the test of time just as some of the most iconic 70's bands. Love him or hate him Noel Gallagher has written some of the best songs in rock history.

    Well.
Britpop is one of my favorite genres but while I agree with you about Oasis I disagree slightly with your opinion of Blur, then again my favorite album of theirs is Leisure so perhaps that says something.

Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet both seemed to me 'Thatcherism on vinyl', I was born in '83, and growing up they seemed to epitomise the glamorous luxury world of yachts and money, and if you were on the other side of "the divide" – tough shit Jack. Oasis and to some extent U2 at least seemed to have some grass roots, and inclusive lyrics. I didn't understand music until Oasis came along in those pivotal teenage years and drummed the basics into my thick skull with a comprehendible, straight forwards instrumentation template that by then was seemingly too simple and surpassed by the vast majority. Up until then, exposure to bubble gum pop music videos and general over enthusiasm had led me to believe that music was something for people who had no problem with feelings of shyness, embarrassment, reservedness, or self-consciousness – but Oasis helped me with decoupling music from dancing, as they seemingly adopted no stage gimmicks or antics. Anyway, fast forward to present day, all hope is lost, we're living in much more totalitarian times, the gap between rich and poor is insurmountable and lost all meaning and relevance, everyone's corrupt and all of a sudden I quite like Duran Duran (that bassline in Rio – wow!).

I'm not a fan of U2 at all, but critizing any band while wearing a Genesis t shirt is surely reaching heights of hypocrisy, unless this is satire?
Both versions are as bad as each other.

I've instincitvely stayed away from all of these bands except Oasis who I kind of liked for their oafish cool, loved Blur (escpecially Song Two) – went to NY in the Cool Britannia time and got a lot of free drinks, U2 was great and then suddenly slithered up their own arse, UB40 arghhh, hmm loved Frankie on the Tube, well shocking to the Mary Whitehouse brigade, but they're all a million times better than the toilet leavings we're served up today.

Don't like Reggie ? What's the matter with you ? Great bloke.
But seriously, UB40's Signing Off is a fantastic album. And bloody well recorded to boot. OK the later stuff is so-so but I'd rather listen to 'Don't Break my Heart' than anything by Muse.
    Just sayin'.

Whatever gets you through the night etc. But I have to say stadium rock is for the most part a bag of shite. U2 are amongst the worst examples: self-obsessed tossers (and Bono is the tosserest tosser in Tosserland). Big hair 80’s groups with their spandex and “guitar heroes” make my brain hurt. Oasis really are a (very expensive) joke, full of swagger and attitude but not much else. Did I leave anyone out? It’s simple really: anybody I don’t like is by definition crap. I really love music, it’s just that so many of these big-name acts make such a dog’s dinner of it and they keep getting away with it.
I enjoyed that little rant. Goodnight.

Spandau bastards…..100%…..I would have had (no) style council in there too. Absolute abomination. I like U2….probably one of the last remaining fans and it is solely for joshua tree and acting baby but I do get some stick for it. Good top 10 of babness. By Jovi deserve their spot as do UB40…..awful awful pap.

Do most of your videos have to do with things you hate? Is it easier to make videos of bands you hate, do you have more material for videos if its a list of things you hate, do you just get more views and support on videos that focus on hating something?

Nothing ruins a great band like success and money. Could say the same for most bands. U2 had something to say when they started….and less than nothing to say as they played the Vegas sphere…except maybe “give us your money!”
