It is eerly similar to how big cats that had a lot of defects which led to them hunting humans, in a way it would not lead these people to have had a normal life but at least they wouldn't end up like this. A more forced questioning and maybe a psychologist check to young kids regardless how they look outside/inside and making it less taboo could really really decrease both depression and people like this because it can be caught early and treated this would lead to more functional people and less sht parents because no one is the same and for some people sht parents it's all it takes

Another serial killer comming to my mind from Germany, IDK when it exactly happend but when I was little, my grandma told me about it, was a butcher who killed about 20+ people and sold their meat in his butcher shop without that people knew what exactly they would buy since he pretended that it was horse meat. Only when a specific person was missing and the police started to investigate about where this person could've been, they found out that this guy was killing people and selling them in his butcher shop
