Priscilla Presley Scores Victory in Elder Abuse Case

Rolling Stone | April 5, 2025

Priscilla Presley’s Elder Abuse Lawsuit to Proceed in California, After Court Ruling

In a significant legal victory for Priscilla Presley, a Los Angeles County judge has declared that her elder abuse lawsuit against a group of former associates will be heard in California, dismissing arguments from the defendants that the case should be shifted to Florida. This ruling sets the stage for an upcoming hearing that promises to delve into the allegations of deceit and manipulation surrounding Presley’s finances and personal affairs.

The decision, issued on Thursday by Judge Mark H. Epstein, counters claims from memorabilia dealer Brigitte Kruse and her husband, alongside investor Kevin Fialko, who argued that managing Presley’s allegations in California while pursuing their own breach of contract lawsuit in Florida was an overwhelming inconvenience. “This is not really a contract-based case at its heart; it is a fraud case,” Epstein articulated, framing Presley’s claims of elder abuse as central to the proceedings.

The judge previously ruled that California has jurisdiction over the defendants, a point he reiterated by emphasizing that the alleged abuse took place in the state, alongside the presence of witnesses and relevant documentation. “Defendants seem to almost ignore the elder abuse allegations… But that is the beating heart of the California case,” Epstein noted, pointing to the implications of the alleged fraud on Presley’s well-being as paramount.

Presley’s legal complaint, filed last July, paints a troubling portrait of her interactions with Kruse, whom she accuses of intricately weaving herself into her life and finances with manipulative tactics. According to Presley, Kruse—a “con-artist and pathological liar”—misappropriated over $1 million from her, coercing her into contracts that transferred significant control of Presley’s business interests to Kruse and Fialko. The lawsuit claims these actions were part of a “meticulously planned and abhorrent scheme” to exploit an older woman’s vulnerabilities.

With Kruse, Fialko, and their legal representation currently remaining tight-lipped regarding the latest ruling, the stakes are high as the elder abuse lawsuit unfolds. A previous statement from Kruse’s camp suggested that the lawsuit was a retaliatory measure against their breach of contract suit, asserting their confidence in their case while lamenting Presley’s allegations as unfounded.

Presley’s accusations extend beyond mere financial claims; she alleges that her former associates placed a “stranglehold” on her finances, even withholding payments she earned from creative projects, including a film adaptation of her biography, Elvis and Me. The situation was further complicated by the recent passing of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, which has put Presley in the spotlight of a family trust dispute and additional legal wranglings.

As this legal drama continues to unfold, all eyes will be on the upcoming court proceedings, set against the backdrop of Los Angeles’s glittering yet tumultuous entertainment landscape. With public interest in Presley’s story at a high, this case could not only impact her personal and financial future but may also bring to light complex issues surrounding elder abuse in Hollywood.
