Another thing to point out is that the water tribe in the show uses the Inuktitut abugida, which was invented in 1855 by a missionary named Evan James. So like, did colonization happen in this world then?

This feels like parody or satire, like the scene where the old village woman is explaining what happened to the air benders is the type of shit you would see in a comedt sketch that is parodying the show.

I don't know. Turning Iroh into a mostly unrepentant, though chill, war criminal seemed like a step backwards. Like when he basically mocks that Earth bender for the death of his brother like "yeah bro, that's war, why you so mad?". It's just so at odds with the more jaded and discontent Iroh of the original.

I loved the original cartoon and was really hoping the live action could be good, but it was work to watch it. It took me almost a month to get through the whole thing because I kept turning it off in disgust to go watch the original. I wanted to give it a chance, but when they twisted the "you little peasant, you found a master didn't you." line, I lost it. I agree with everything you said. The original was almost perfect, and netflix sucked the soul out of it. It was pretty though. Props to costume and makeup, they understood the assignment. Everyone in the writers room should be fired!

Bumi tells him to quit playing games? BUMI?!

That's literally the first thing he does in the show! And the cage thing in the other season.

Did they even watch the show?

The Avatar cartoon was LITERALLY perfect in terms of storytelling, world-building, and themes. It's impossible to adapt to live-action, sorry, no matter how hard you try, some things just can't be translated to a "real life" visual.

Now, I really understand why it was like this. Netflix KNOWS it's shit, it's made like this because Netflix wants to be "second screen" content. You SHOULDN't watch it with focus, you should be watching it in the background – and if it's so story packed and not repetitive, well all these people would be lost, obviously! hahaha this sucks

Original series: Suki is a disciplined and intelligent warrior who is assertive enough to put Sokka in his place when he disrespects her, yet empathetic enough to teach him how to fight when he apologizes to her

Live action: Suki is a fuckin creep lmao

I can’t stand that there is going to be a second season of this. After the previous iteration and now this, it’s clear that Hollywood can’t adapt this story. What’s crazy is that it isn’t a complicated story. It’s a pretty classic coming of age heroes journey. It really does seem like no one knew what they were doing and it’s pretty much guaranteed season 2 has to be incoherent in terms of how related to the source material it is.

The fact that a lot of ATLA fans can spot those missed points so easily and the writers can't makes me wonder if the writers even watched the show they were adapting

Seriously? It took years to write that?

THIS! This is why I was so upset and couldn't even finish the first episode. Casting went well but it just didn't feel like the original. Why watch the live action when I could just watch the original content it's based on.

It just sucks because they had all the right substance and actors and just… Fumbled the ball inthe endzone and allowed the opposing team the touchdown
The opposing team being the executives who thought they did great

and tbh to add to my comment why bluff the show and make it like its for kids when it is but the original ppl who watched the avatar is well in the there late 20s early 30s now is a damn shame

Open shot: EPIC sized space ship (below shot) apparently firing on smaller ship. Emphasize size of ship compared to chase ship…maybe long slow pass.

Cut to inside Predator ship. Enter villain in dark helmet (cape?) Dialogue: "Attention ship harboring escape Princess Leia. Return my plans that your brother, my SON, can use to destroy my main base due to it's exposed exhaust port!!"

    Cut to…uhhh.

thank u for summarizing the differences bc i couldn't get past ten minutes of onscreen g3nocide and aang's botched guilt/run away that i just gave up immediately. I knew i skipped for a good reason! will look forward to season 2 but i don't have the 8 hours to spare on this one.
