Development doesn’t mean it has to look like white man’s capitalist development. We need to do Native American development, grounded in our cultures, that supports everyone in our communities. Infrastructure isn’t necessarily development, either. From a Native perspective, infrastructure is a human rights issue, not a development issue. Of course all things are connected, but we need to teach these concepts that correct widely held misunderstandings about what development actually is, and what it looks like in practical application. . .
