Join Native News Online Publisher Levi Rickert as he interviews Dr. Elizabeth Rule (Chickasaw) on her book Indigenous DC.
Dr. Elizabeth Rule (enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation) is an Assistant Professor of Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies at American University in Washington, DC. Rule is the creator of the Guide to Indigenous Lands Project. In July 2019, she created the Guide to Indigenous DC, a mobile application and digital map of Indigenous sites of importance in the nation’s capital, which received media coverage on more than thirty outlets.
Rule’s book: Indigenous DC book brings together the original inhabitants who call the District their traditional territory, the diverse Indigenous diaspora who has made community here, and the land itself in a narrative arc that clarifies that all land is Native land. This important book is a valuable and informational resource on both Washington, DC, regional and Native American history.
