My Quest to Find the Weirdest 90s Toy Ever

Kurtis Conner | February 4, 2025

Last year I saw a commercial from 1999 for a product called “The VideoGear Command Center” and I immediately set out on a quest to track one of them down…here’s what happened.

I lost my grandma a year and a bit ago and exactly a year after her death I was wilding out and wasn’t sure why till I realised the date. For some reason something in me remembered but my conscious mind didn’t.

Not me finding this video the day after the one year dead mom anniversary 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for somehow making me feel a little better by making a video about a silly game chair and also for actually leaving in the reality of grief. It comes out of no where for no reason anytime. I’d love to leave the end uplifting but I’m still in the anger phase 😂😂

it's three days until the one year anniversary of my father's death. i felt really represented when you spoke about your grief surrounding your stepfather's death. i can relate a lot. i am also transgender, so seeing other guys expressing emotions openly really helps me feel more normal. thank you for your sensitivity surrounding the topic of grief Kurtis, because it had an impact on me.

These types of videos have become my absolute favorite form of entertainment. A person becoming overly obsessed with something totally random and nonsense, but going on a learning journey with them to get to the bottom of it. Like a rollercoaster of learning, I love it.

It's so strange how gaming and grief go together in a way. I lost a close friend of mine in 2019, (he was also my first serious boyfriend in 2017) we gamed together sometimes. I still have him on Steam and he also made a profile on my Playstation 4, I can't get myself to delete the profile.

I know this video was months ago but when my grandmother passed, she had a ton of old gaming items (magazines, game cards, consoles, etc.) and going through it was so bittersweet. In one of those magazines was THE video game command center so watching this video reminded me of her.

My uncle that pretty much raised me died almost 6 years ago. It does get easier but sometimes you do something that takes you back to a good time you had with them or you see something that reminds you of them and it gets rough. Sometimes I’ll cry when I see a swing so I think crying in the VGCC is so valid
