This is so so false, had to repeat at least 10times the word "Manhattan" to the cab driver the first time I went to NY before he understands it and take me there! Goes in both ways (Yes i'm French :D)

Watching on YouTube tv app. This video so many times on the list! Wait? Was the list padded? Nope. … But I stopped counting when it was more than 200 😂😂. Trés bonne, Matteo! J'ai vous venez á Portland (Oregon, c'est evidenté).

The number of people telling me they can speak French while they just know 7-8 words and 2-3 sentences, I have the same reaction as Florian usually
Had you been like "I can say a few words in French" or something like that, you would have had a totally different reaction
It's just cultural differences I guess, we French people tend to understate ourselves in public most of the time, so when someone is doing the opposite it can be seen as kinda pretentious
In France : be humble -> people will raise you up / brag -> people will pull you down. However it is just a common thing, not an absolute rule, it depends a lot on the intensity, the people involved and the situation
I can say however that most of us really appreciate the effort made by foreigners to speak a few words of French while in France or confronted to French people abroad, so thank you for that

i've chuckled once only and it was because of the french guy saying "ok"
also, french men are gay because they can dress well and cook…. as if that was a standard for gay people while the only gay boy i see in this video dresses like an asshole hillbilly from the 80's and i doubt he's a cook either
just that thought was more funny than those 7 minutes of life i've just lost

Had a similar experience in Italy with the whole accent thing tbf. Really just wanted to ask the guy if he realises that pretty much all the Italians in the UK (where i'm from) have far from perfect accents and sound like Angelo from the muppets.

As a French guy who lived for quite a while in the US, I've had people tell me : Wow you're the first French I can understand. I would say 99% of the people understood me without any problem, but that 1% damn… Even going twice to the extend of asking their latino coworker to talk to me, and obviously the guy was coming to me talking in Spanish and then getting confused as to why he was asked to talk to me in Spanish. I just told the guy : obviously that's because someone who speaks with an accent is a Mexican…

Matteo, I have a question (and to all Italian Americans reading my comment). Have you applied for Italian Citizenship by descent and gotten the Italian passport? Because if I was Italian I would do it yesterday!

When comedy about the French is only referencing other comedy about the French, it's not really funny. There are many things you could have found to laugh about the French, but personally I don't relate to this 'stupid Americans' behaviour being annoying because it only exists as a tired comedy routine,, which ironically includes his own routine.

One thing tourists in France don't understand is that those waiters/shopkeepers/receptionists who get nasty with you aren't doing so because you don't speak fluent French. They act like condescending bastards to anyone who walks in, even native speakers. They just do it in different ways depending on what you'll understand.

I knew a French-Canadian dude who went to Paris and said that the French people were rude to him. When he would speak French–his native tongue…!–they'd sneer, and he overhead a woman say about him: "That man tried speaking French to me…"

IT's funny, but I really feel that's the exact opposite with french and americans. We do speak english and are really surprised and happy when you try to speak french…But in USA when we try…Gad Elmaleh did a sketch about it. Maybe you're confusing French with Parisians…but even so, this is not at all my experience.

Matteo Garrone is the director of the movie "Pinocchio" and From Dusk till dawn 3 : The Hangman's daughter is a 1999 movie starring Danny Trejo and Michael Parks (known also for Kill Bill) Peace Next

americans asking you to repeat 3 times the same word so they can have fun with your accent ?
That exact thing happened to me last time I went to U.S.
I just wanted to buy a donut.

French don't dispise foreign accents, they just need time to understand what you say when you try to prononce this impossible langage that is french. But some foreigners actually work on speaking french to the point they can discuss with french without problem. You just have to remember this langage is horribly painfull to learn and we were forced to learn it as kids. After surviving the boot camp that french grammar class is, we don't forgive those who only half-ass try to gurgle random sounds and claim they speak french.
