LCD Soundsystem Returns with “X-Ray Eyes”: A Hypnotic Comeback on NTS Radio

In a moment sure to thrill fans of electronic rock, LCD Soundsystem has graced listeners with their first new song in two years, “X-Ray Eyes,” which debuted on Anu’s “Soup to Nuts” show on NTS Radio earlier today. The track, which appears around the 19:40 mark, encapsulates the band’s signature blend of pulsing grooves and introspective lyricism, making it a mesmerizing addition to the iconic band’s discography.

James Murphy’s mellow, half-sung vocals set the stage for lyrical introspection as he muses about possessing “eyes that can see inside” and becoming privy to one’s “disguise.” The refrain, a haunting whisper of “X-ray eyes,” resonates against a backdrop of rhythmic keyboard stabs and an engaging drum machine beat. A buoyant, flute-like synth flits throughout the arrangement, lending an air of levity to the otherwise introspective themes. True to LCD Soundsystem’s style, the contrasting keyboard lines add an exhilarating complexity that will undoubtedly tempt listeners to hit repeat.

Fans have awaited this moment since the band last released new material in 2022 with “New Body Rhumba,” a track featured on the soundtrack for Noah Baumbach’s film White Noise. Although they took a brief hiatus from new releases, the band has kept busy touring, appearing at high-profile festivals like London’s All Points East, LV’s Life Is Beautiful Block Party, and Salt Lake City’s Kilby Block Party. The anticipation for their upcoming shows has only intensified with the announcement of their eight-show residency at The Shrine in Los Angeles, set to start on Halloween.

The forthcoming LA residency is a testament to LCD Soundsystem’s continued relevance and their status as one of the preeminent live acts of our time. Following the LA shows, they’ll head back to their hometown of New York City for another holiday residency at the Knockdown Center, featuring promising openers including Poolside, Gustaf, and Fcukers. The excitement around these performances is palpable, as fans gear up for an experience sure to blend their beloved hits with new material like “X-Ray Eyes.”

With their latest offering, LCD Soundsystem remains a vital force in today’s music landscape, capturing the intricacies of both the heart and the dance floor. Stream “X-Ray Eyes” now and catch a glimpse of the band’s ongoing evolution as they prepare to take the stage once again.
