INFO: The Piper At The Gates of Dawn is Pink Floyd’s debut album and the only album they made under the leadership of Syd Barrett. Ever since its release it’s been regarded as one of the most influential albums of psychedelic rock music and a definite step in the development of prog-rock. Originally inspired by RnB and blues, the group started experimenting with drawn-out live sessions with genre bending guitar and keyboard sounds and other-wordly rhythms. Songs such as “Astronomy Domine” and “Interstellar Overdrive” are great examples of that. But the album was not just a source of long-winded, psychedelic freak-outs. Syd was also a master at crafting short, child-like pop songs. Couple that with cutting-edge production and recording techniques, and you end up with an outstanding listening experience, that would inspire generations of musicians to come.
