Prison concerts, for whatever reason, are a recurring theme in pop music lore. Perhaps because musicians genuinely want to connect with the underbelly of society, or perhaps because it makes for a great product. Needless to say, some of these shows have gone down better than others.

this kinda reminds me of how this band called the escorts formed
every member was doing time but they all sung some doo-wop songs together like most prisoners did back then
eventually, they all got instruments and played a show for their prison in 1970
a motown producer noticed them and signed them 3 years later
they're kinda like a beta R&B version of NWA and lots of their album covers have prison imagery

Correction, he never spent more than a night in jail AT A TIME. In total, he was arrested about 7 or so times, and remember, he was arrested in drug smuggling charges at one point.

john lee hookers soledad gig is honestly one of my favorite live concerts, my favorite songs being “Lucille”, “Serve Me Right To Suffer”, and “Bang Bang Bang Bang”, don’t know why, but it just hits in the feels, never been to prison, hopefully never will.

surprised metallica isnt on here. i think besides johnny cash, the cramps, and fugazi, theyre one of the most well known for a prison show/video for st. anger.
