How Music Can Be A Language

92.9 The Torch | January 29, 2025

Is learning music theory important? Music theory the way that musicians communicated with one another. However, it is often the one element of music that musicians are least excited to learn. In this video, I consider the idea of music as language as mentioned in Victor Wooten’s book ‘The Music Lesson.’

In the book, Victor Wooten proposes that notes are only one element of music theory. In reality, music theory encompasses many different elements that most people actually enjoy studying.

If we change our viewpoint on music theory and consider it as a language then we can begin to see it as a way to communicate rather than a set of rules that musicians have to follow.
