How Historic Figures Ruined Their Reputations

Weird History | October 23, 2024

The way we view the past is shaped by the present. As societal attitudes and values shift over time, the legacies of historical figures change as they are reevaluated. Some of these changes are dramatic – individuals once viewed positively have had darker aspects of their past come to light. For others, the reverse is true; those who were reviled and divisive in their own lives enjoy a resurgence in popularity after their passing.

Pres. Woodrow Wilson(1913-1920) should be here. In his day he was the twice-elected President who oversaw the Spanish Flu outbreak (the Covid 19 of its day) as well as America's entry into World War One. Today, however he is seen as a staunch segregationist and Klan sympathizer! Not-to-mention the long term failure of the Treaty of Versailles, which of course paved the way for WW2!

2:11. He was absolutely a racist. Go search the American federal government website and you'll find a speech he gave in which is, in no uncertain terms, specifically says that black people are inferior to whites and always will be.

Also, I always downvote clickbait no matter how much I love the channel or video. Clickbait is never acceptable. Lincoln's reputation is just fine, and the thumbnail is a lie.

Lincoln was a racist, he didn't free the slaves because he thought it was the right thing to do, he wanted to screw over the southern state that relied on it more heavily than the north. He wanted to ship all the now former slaves back to Africa when it was all said and done. He was shot before he could follow through with that part of his plan.

There's something up with the narrator again. Also while I like the content I don't like your political bias and don't view obama favorably. What's going on with this channel, using clickbait thumbnails too. I think this channel has lived long enough to become the villain

Churchill killed thousands of Aussie's Kiwi's by sending them to Gallipoli. We were still baby nations but we wanted to help our mother land. Coz both nations had tiny populations so they joined together known as the ANZACS, Australia and New Zealand Army Corp. We've had a ANZAC Day since 2014 which we still celebrate today & parades to remind us of those who lost their lives for us to live a free nation with freedom of speech. It's sad the world has forgotten about those who served to give them the life they have & now they're today but this generation is going in the opposite direction to a dictatorship

This summaries everything wrong with western society: from heros recast as villians based on the changing tides of the day to nipples censored to protect from vice.
