And they made fun of Reagan for investing in SDI. Yes, you can keep trying to reducing the numbers of missiles and warheads, but that's more like herding cats every day. Space based deterrence is strategically important. You can see launches, you can plan missile destruction before reentry. The future isn't in reducing nukes, it's using technology to make them useless.

Such a BS conclusion to an otherwise good video.
No, people in Russia, Iran, China and North Korea can NOT affect their governments. They can't change anything, they can't demand anything, they can't do anything. They can't even watch this video without going out of their way (or country), because YouTube is blocked in all of these countries.
Seems like USA is the only nuclear nation where this is at least remotely true. Very remotely.

If you are wanting a more in depth second by second look on this. I cannot recommend enough Annie Jacobsen’s book Nuclear War a Scenario. i listened to the audio book while i driving to and from work and it was the most interesting yet terrifying read i’ve ever had

In a basic situation like this where the planet has essentially been divided and it's Superpower A vs Superpower B and I were leader of whichever was being attacked, I would not retaliate. It is an extremely difficult decision to simply roll over and let your side be wiped out, but at least the other side will almost certainly (barring an INTENSE nuclear winter from their own attacks) survive just fine and become essentially the world's government. Humanity would live on, possibly under a brutal oppressive government who's political philosophy I completely disagree with, but it would live on and thus there would always be a small sliver of hope of things getting better. I would take that outcome over one where the only intelligent species we know of is wiped out completely (which I'm operating under the assumption would happen if both sides strike both military and civilian targets).
If their strike was only at military targets and did not include critical infrastructure located in areas that would result in huge amounts of civilian casualties, then I would retaliate by sending missiles at their military targets but I would avoid their critical infrastructure and civilian areas as they did. Then I would pray that when the dust settles both sides will have lost the majority of their military capabilities but not their civilizations.

I reckon the only way earth and humanity has a chance of surviving nuclear war is if the other side decided not to shoot no matter what it’s a grim reality that would probably never happen the other side would always fire back it’s only logical it’s basic behaviour
