A group of hackers tried to gain access to millions of servers around the world – a master key to most of the internet. Last minute a software developer thwarted their plans.

The biggest mistake was of course giving Jin Tan too much control. She shouldn't be granted access to the security alerts dashboard to change the email in the first place, which was obviously a red flag. There's no way I would give someone this level of control over my project. The question is if the co-maintainers should be trusted with important project structure. The question is if you should trust random people on the internet, even if their past contributions seem legit. I say no. I wouldn't trust anyone besides my friends to maintain a project with me, notably an important one like this. Contributions? Sure, why not. If their contributions seem legit, that's okay. But I still want to have an overview to security alerts, so there's no way I'm gonna give access to that to someone random I don't really trust with this kind of important access. No.

Anyway, this clearly shows how fragile the Internet is, when it literally stands on one singular project just a couple of unpaid overworked people dedicate their time to.

The thing is if you're getting a lot of requests and suggestions it'll take time to get to all of them. Especially if more are coming in at the same time. Most people don't understand that patience is important. Especially now

Something in my head started ticking when the sponsor section started. Then, it all made sense. Brilliant was the sponsor of today's video.

Seriously, how is it that I can now spot Brilliant sponsorships before they are stated?

@8:52 | 500ms lag is actually horrible. To say that nobody else would ever notice a straight half second of lag is just wrong. Anyone that has ever used a functioning computer would notice that.
