Firing radioactive stuff at high speed under city streets

TRIUMF’s Rabbit Line, on the University of British Columbia campus, sends slightly radioactive material under the streets of Vancouver at 100km/h (60mph). Here’s how and why. ◾ More: https://www.triumf.ca/headlines/current-events/rabbit-line-gets-replacement

I'm guessing the "Rabbit Line" is alluding to greyhound racing? Normally the lure that runs along the rails is made to look like a rabbit.

Of course the MRI machine has a screensaver of the General Electric Logo.

For why it is named the rabbit line I have a fact which may also relate.
For electrical wires when we need to feed them through a large inaccessible pipe (such as it is underground) we use a large sort of reverse vacuum to push a large foam block just the diameter of the pipe with a string attached.
Here's the fact, that foam block we send through the pipe Is called a rabbit.
Maybe it's related maybe it isn't but who knows

I bet it's named after the fable,
The Tortoise & The Hare.
(Most North Americans call a "hare" a rabbit.)

I had an MRI here on May 2 and was injected with the radioactive tracer coming from the Rabbit Line. Before the procedure I mentioned this video to the MRI techs and they said yes they remember when Tom Scott visited to make the Rabbit Line video.

I'm more curious as to how they installed the line over such a long distance.

I like that the return trip for the rabbits, which has no speed requirement, is "yea, Chuck drives his van over there and just picks all of them up"

There are a lot of smart people in a lot of Tom's videos, but something about this video made me feel even dumber and more insignificant than normal.
