Chain emails were a big source of ridiculous hoaxes in the Web 1.0 days. One of the most infamous at the time was the tale of the Asian man who ate a baby. The most common versions of the email stated that this was part of a growing trend in countries such as China, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. It eventually also made it to Rotten, and people actually thought it was real, prompting real life investigations into the matter.
