Anna B Savage reveals upcoming album titled “You and I Are Earth”

Anna Savage Weaves Intricacy and Intimacy in ‘You and I Are Earth’
As the dim light of a new era of creativity dawns, Anna Savage returns with You and I Are Earth, an ethereal follow-up to her praised albums A Common Turn and in|FLUX. This new offering is a testament to not just her evolution as an artist but also a reflection on the fragility of human connection in today’s brash attention economy. “I don’t think I feel nervous because of the intimacy of it,” Savage asserts. “The thing I feel nervous about is that it is so delicate and subtle, and the attention economy has made us desire big shiny things that will whisk us away.”
Savage’s latest venture is a rich tapestry of sound and emotion, imbued with a hint of an open-ended philosophy that invites listeners to linger, listen, and engage rather than simply consume. It’s a soundscape that feels profoundly personal yet universally resonant—a dichotomy that Savage navigates skillfully in her music.
Debuting the enchanting single "Agnes," featuring the haunting vocals of Irish musician Anna Mieke, Savage offers a glimpse into the sonic world that awaits fans in You and I Are Earth. As she prepares for a European tour encompassing cities like Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Lisbon, anticipation for her intimate performances is palpable, promising a connection that extends beyond the stage.
Savage’s artistic journey has deep roots in Ireland, where her love affair with the land and its culture began over a decade ago while she pursued a Master’s in Poetry in Manchester. “I totally fell in love with Seamus Heaney,” she reminisces. This artistic pilgrimage continued with a Master’s in Music in Dublin, during which she immersed herself in the intricacies of sean-nós singing, devoured works from beloved animation studio Cartoon Saloon, and explored the depths of Irish mythology. Her days spent on the west coast of Ireland, nestled in her hometown of County Donegal, invigorate her creative spirit and offer fertile ground for artistic collaboration.
The musical landscape of You & I Are Earth reflects this rich cultural exchange, enlisting an impressive roster of Irish contemporaries, including strings and harmonium contributions from Kate Ellis and Caimin Gilmore of Crash Ensemble, Cormac MacDiarmada of Lankum, as well as the captivating sound of Mieke’s vocals. Each artist adds their unique touch, creating an album that ebbs and flows like the gentle tides of the Irish coast. Under the deft guidance of producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy, known for his work with Lankum and Black Midi, Savage’s newfound alliances illuminate the delicate beauty of the collective human experience within her music.
The tracklist glimmers like a glassy sea, with titles such as “Talk To Me,” “Donegal,” “Big & Wild,” and “Incertus,” each hinting at the emotional depth and exploratory nature of a record that embraces both stillness and exuberance. The closer, “The Rest Of Our Lives,” looms as a moving testament to the ephemeral nature of time and relationships, inviting listeners to ponder their own perilous dance with vulnerability.
As Savage gears up for her tour and the album’s release, there’s an undeniable thrill in the air. You and I Are Earth promises to be not just a collection of songs but a shared experience—a call to arms for those weary of the noise and hungry for the essence of what it means to be human. Embrace the delicate, and perhaps the shiny things will fade into the background. The universe beckons, and Anna Savage is here to guide us through it.
