Amyl and The Sniffers Drop ‘Big Dreams’ Ahead of New Album ‘Cartoon Darkness’

In an emphatic return to the music scene, Amyl and The Sniffers have unveiled their electrifying new single, “Big Dreams,” setting the stage for their much-anticipated third album, Cartoon Darkness, due out October 25 via Rough Trade Records. The Australian punk rock quartet, known for their unabashed and high-octane sound, flirts with a more nuanced, introspective vibe on this latest track, a departure from what fans might expect.

Produced by Nick Launay—whose resume boasts collaborations with heavyweights such as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Yeah Yeah Yeahs—the single was recorded at Foo Fighters’ famed 606 Studios in Los Angeles earlier this year. The sonic palette echoes the band’s raw energy while simultaneously delving deeper into the personal and societal challenges that shape the narrative of “Big Dreams.”

Singer Amy Taylor opens up about the origins of the song, revealing a vulnerability that starkly contrasts the band’s reckless exterior. “I am writing this before ‘Big Dreams’ comes out, and I am actually a bit nervous that it’s a single, because it’s so different from a lot of people’s expectations of us,” Taylor confesses. The track arises from a place of empathy, reflecting the financial struggles faced by those closest to her. “It’s really hard to make your dreams come true when you’re trying to get by day-to-day," she adds. Yet, the song is infused with a potent sense of hope, celebrating the resilience of creativity amidst adversity.

The accompanying music video, filmed in the stark beauty of the desert, showcases the band’s spirited dynamic and serves as an exhilarating introduction to the new album. “It was the first clip we shot for this album, and it was fun as hell,” Taylor enthuses, hinting at the adventurous spirit that permeates their latest work.

Following a summer filled with stadium support slots and sold-out shows across North America, Amyl and The Sniffers are gearing up for a robust UK and European tour this November.
