Something that should be noted is how massively the left/liberal/elite class is represented. The media has always been lopsided and overly represented while outsiders blindly take the view that their views (the media) is the general consensus. Small government conservatives have done a poor job, not completely to their fault, of giving voice to that side. Anything that started out conservative was taken over by the left as demonstrated by a couple of the outdoor type magazines. Boots on the ground, non-activist, not affiliated environmentalists, stopped buying those magazines. Same goes for all magazines that leaned small c conservative once they drifted left. When you allow media to be consolidated by few it controls the narrative. Those magazines are hostile to and have wrongly stereotyped large small government conservatives in favor of left wing socialism and big gov. We want to live and let be they want to dictate every aspect of existence. While conservatives were minding their own business the left was creating a narrative with the help of RINOs.

I honestly hate how half of these are either the most basic, bare bones, "google, what are some stereotypically American ___", or are so politically charged that it's hard to tell if they are actually trying to celebrate our culture or push a political message, like seriously, "250 years of American art, the MAGA theory of art", with a skelatalized Statue of Liberty while drawing parallels in the magazine between the Weimer Republic and Nazi Germany to modern America? Are we serious?

Why is so hard for Americans and American culture to just celebrate the country and it's successes and it's culture, to celebrate what is uniquely American in origin and it's evolved background brought over through immigration, why does it always have to be a political critique drawing the most ridiculous parallels, or the laziest slop put together. Even when they occasionally actually celebrate America and it's culture, there's still an aspect of tearing something or some group down, talking down to it. I hate this culture of pessimism so much that it is turning me into the very thing I'm criticizing. I haven't watched the full video yet but many of these are just so corny.

You also have Appelbaums claim in this video…yes, the "censors" are indeed right, Americans are ceasing to love their country more than ever before. Appelbaums claim is literally wrong and his rebuttal has no connection to his claim, Americans wanting more unbiased history to be taught is not proof of "loving" your country, that's what HE thinks is "loving your country" and it's evident from his claim, patriotism in the US is at a near all time low, and is declining more and more by the years. 53%, about 1 in 2 Americans also view their fellow Americans as having "very bad morals", the US is the ONLY country in the world polled where the majority feel that way, with Americans also being some of the most self critical people in the world, Americans rank nearly dead last in terms of "self assurance as a country", or "self loathing as a country" in international pollings…yes, Americans are indeed ceasing to love their country. The fact Appelbaum clearly unintentionally applied what he views as "loving your country" (which is apparently teaching unbiased history) as the baseline, yet people are eating it up as factual is insane.

I think the Human Fly climb and the Joey Chestnut hotdog victory are actually massively important. not as events themselves, but as key examples in the massive waves of culture.

Human Fly is the quintessential start to the popularity of exotic stunts like Man on Wire, Free Soloing, even things like flash mobs and public pranks. It took old american circus culture and kept it relevant outside the circus tent.

Joey Chestnut and the rise of competitive eating also certainly feeds into the popularity of food prn and the sensationalism of the food world. food challenges lead to mukbang lead to asian street food vlogs. american kids knowing which beijing noodle carts have won a michelin star. compare julia child to the sensationalism and competitiveness of food culture we see now
