7:00 Let me get this straight, you were visiting Lisbon, and you saw a flag flying at a castle, and you didn't think to Google "flag of Lisbon"? 🤦
@dollyisanerd
August 3, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Hey! The last flag is an unofficial “New Hampshire Pride Flag” also referred to as “Appalachian flag”. Cheers! ( 17:54 )

The writing on the Lisbon flag is Portuguese, not Latin!

7:24 if you have a flag mystery, google the flag of the city you’re in. Probably a good place to start.

Once I tried to report a spelling error on a website. I thought "Korean" was victim of autocorrect. That day I learned about "Karen", or "Ka Ren", and felt stupid.

You were wrong about Ryan's. Ryan's didn't have red around the white like Dorset's.

Quoting from Reddit on the same thread that says the mystery design was seen in New Hampshire copied from JJ McCullough video, it could be a one-off design: "That’s on my neighbors house, Stan Hudson. Making these flags is definitely a small hobby of his when he’s not vacationing in Florida. The cool thing about this flag is how it looks when you fold it at the corners and [censored]". The star and crescent are reminiscent of Azerbaijan but that has 8 point star. As far as I know only Australia is the only national flag with a 7 point star (the commonwealth star below the canton, with the 7 points representing the number of states/territories, unlike the other stars which represent the Southern Cross constellation.)

As a Brit, your rendering of the British White Ensign hurts my soul. The centre of the flag should correspond with the centre of the red cross. This of course means that the union flag in the canton must be shrunk slightly (and the lower right corner of the canton is therefore not in the centre of the flag, as it is with the red and blue ensigns, or your off-centre rendering of the white ensign.) Other than that great video

1:32 ACKTUALLY Cornwall is the most western part of England and Great Britain, but not the UK as Northern Ireland makes up part of the United Kingdom.
That area of England along with Devon, Somerset, Dorset and sometimes other areas are referred to as the West Country and is one of the most popular tourist regions in the UK. The Cornish nationalists are sometimes portrayed as being resentful towards the influx of tourists but its quite a poor region comparatively so tourism makes up a considerable part of the local economy.

The amounts of American Vietnam war veterans who fly that flag because they “didn’t lose” is just outstanding to me. I understand that there’s some complex and screwed up psychological issues among ‘Nan vets having to do with being drafted and the horrendous reception coming back home but they degree to which I’ve noticed that ‘Nam vets delude themselves on a variety of issues just absolutely astounds me.

Star and Crescent are taken from the flag of Portsmouth, Hampshire.
We have Portsmouth, New Hampshire but pretty much every city or town here is named after somewhere in the UK and the significance of this to the average resident is zero. It doesn't represent the state in any meaningful way.
White mountain is for Mt. Washington, and I presume the tricolor is referring to how the state is generally divided into three parts (North Country, Central/Lakes Region, Southern/Seacoast)
Teal = Water
Purple = The "State" color, purple finch, purple lilac, Concord is in the center of the state
Navy = Wilderness

I wonder if that flag might be related to the Sherpa people of Nepal given it has some Symbols that look like the ones on the Flag of Nepal and the big triangle that looks like a Mountain

The last flag is probably just a personal flag that some random person designed for themselves or family or smth.

I've been looking at official government websites for the flag at the end of the video. Here's all the potential ones I could find:
(Most probable will be in bold)
Belknap County – No official flag, maybe a residential made one.
Coös County – Listed as having an official flag, but nowhere to be found online.
Grafton County – No official flag, maybe a residential made one.
Merrimack County – Listed as having an official flag, but nowhere to be found online.
Pittsfield, Merrimack County, NH – Same colors as the flag. (I'm really running out of ideas here.)
Andover, Merrimack County NH – Same colors as the flag, mountain shapes appear on the flag as well.
Barrington, Strafford County, NH – Same colors as the flag.
Laconia, Belknap County, NH – Same colors as the flag.
Rochester, Strafford County, NH – Same colors as the flag, mountains.
Stratham, Rockingham County, NH – Same colors as the flag
There is 0 evidence pointing towards this flag being any kind of official flag of any of the over 200 towns in New Hampshire, nor any municipal flag. This is almost guaranteed to be someone's flag that they made by themselves, and decided to get it put onto a custom made flag.

On the Cornwall flag (Saint Piran's Flag), Cornwall was actually a stronghold of Celtic/Brittonic culture long after the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans. The Cornish language still exist till today and is a sister Celtic language to Welsh and Breton (Wales and Brittany). The Cornwall flag looks extremely similar to the old Breton Flag (Kroaz Du) and the old Welsh flag (Flag of Saint David)

Why did you use a snippet of the Spanish national hymn when talking about Sealand? Just curious

With the mysterious flag with the moon and sun it reminds me of flags from the Middle East and with the colours of the flag it might be a lesbian pride. So I am guessing it is someone from a Middle East or island country who happens to be gay

I have found the exact location of the flag on Google street view! I can literally see it!
Unfortunately I moved from my hometown only 30 minutes away, to across the country. Otherwise I would drive there and just knock on the door 😂
If any other NH folks volunteer, reply to me and I can figure out a private way to tell you the address without doxing anyone.

I paused the video at 17:46 (having watched all but the ad-read until then) and did a quick search of my first guess/impression. Finding nothing (on the first page, without scrolling farther), my second search term lead to a reddit post linking to this video. So I guess I'd better finish watching.

Sealand is also the in-fiction name of New Zealand in The Chrysalids, a novel.

That seven-pointed-star flag was inverted, or upside-down. Was it hanging on the wall that way? Does "Grandpa" mean something by that? The French flag would also have been the Allen company flag upside down.
