It’s Week 3 of Camp Digs 2026, it’s 90s week, so we’re digging into Aquemini
.
In 1998, the two halves of OutKast were pulling in opposite directions. André went vegan, sober, and was starting to get a little more out there. Big Boi stayed the Atlanta player who wouldn’t change for anyone. Most groups would break up here, but instead they made one of the best albums of the 90s.

fun fact about the Rosa Parks lawsuit… Rosa Parks herself had very little to do with the lawsuit. Her lawyer was just trying to cash in on the controversy. Parks' family said that she didn't know who Outkast was and if she did she would most likely be flattered.

This album helped shaped my life! The homies and I were outkast junkies from atliens thru aquemini and stayed that way til that massive marshall mathhees bomb dropped later in 99! Still would credit outkast with keeping me a hip hop head after the passing of pac and big…I graduated class of 2000 so u can see how this album would be important to me!

All their albums were classics but the first 3 imo were masterpieces. I also feel ATLiens was their greatest work simply because it was their pivotal sophomore album. Following up a successful debut album is probably the hardest thing to do for any music artist. Do you try and recreate the first album's magic to retain fans and sales only to look like a one trick pony or dare to do something new and unique putting your career in jeopardy? Outkast went with the latter and showed the world they had no creative limitations in a genre that often shunned thinking outside the box for the most part. And they were doing all this during the whole "East vs West" crap of the mid/late 90s that got most of the attention…even though real hip hop heads were listing to Kast at the time.

Although Aquemini is a good album, it seems like people like to crown it a classic because of the consistency rather than the actual music. Because to me, Southern Player and ATLIENS are better albums

Southernplayalistic is the cake. ATLiens is the icing on the cake. And Aquemini is the cherry on top! OutKast made their mark and represented the South so wonderfully.

ATLiens is their best. Absolutely zero skips start to finish. Consistent production that's beautiful and atmospheric stringing the tracks together feeling much more like one body of work compared to individual songs, and keeping everything feeling on "theme" for the album. Aquemini has some fantastic tracks, but it's not a no skip masterpiece like the album before it.

I love digging the greats it's one of the best music channels ever and I understand the problem with YouTube and why you're trying out this new format of which I support, I'd rather see my favorite YouTubers experiment and try new things to get past the corruptions of the platform, but having said that I gotta say I'm not enjoying the new format all that much even though I follow the steps it never syncs correctly, I don't like having to constantly look over at the tv and down at my phone the whole time, the sound quality isn't that good because it's coming from the phones speakers I also don't like that the audio on you phone plays while your talking on the video and i personally watch these videos to relax but with this new format I don't feel that anymore. I hope to be in the minority and I truly hope for the best for this channel.
