The Barlow’s Back In Town
Take That are back with their latest release, “Sweet July”. This is the second single from their upcoming 10th studio album which is due to be released later this year. I’m a huge Gary Barlow fan but I have mixed feelings about this track… he could do so much more! What do you think?

Justin talkin about Gary? Takes me back to JHRA Live at the start of the year!

I completely agree with your points here. For me they’ve kind of gone downhill since Jason left (just my personal opinion) and you can hear it in the music. The effort has changed a bit too. When it was a four, it felt like a wheel, all of them were included (in the music, harmonies, dancing) and since his leaving, it does often feel like Gary’s solo career but with Mark and Howard in the background. I’d love for you to listen to Wooden Boat. It’s a lesser known track from their Beautiful World album and truly one of the loveliest. Jason was also the main guitarist of sorts back then — of the acoustic variety. I like the new song’s chorus but it doesn’t feel memorable to me compared to the likes of rule the world / patience. Great video Justin. 😊
Ps. Love the drumming lol.

You’ll be surprised at how many of the take that songs since they came back were written by Mark Owen, or at least the main idea of the song.

I think that Sweat July has no connection, just because it's catchy with the lyrics , classic sound of Thake That but the funky guitar riff in those gap is really great.

Justin, I think it's time for a Brian McFadden interview. Some Westlife drama could be fun:).

Of course they aren't playing; it's a "music video." The drums aren't mic'd up for starters.

I LOATHE Coldplay! Chris Martin has the most nasally, whiney voice ever. Could it be something saucy like a hint of a sex act? The 'Hiding in' part could be his feeling when he's inside his lady where he had nicknamed her bits 'Sweet July.' Just a suggestion 😘😁 Also NO to Gary in skinny jeans. A good pair of regular fit Levis from the late 80s, early 90s were best.

Justin, if you read this.
I just listened to Joey Landreth at "Musora" (YT)….."This Guitarist Completely Transformed A Rock Anthem"…Publ. July 16
Check it out, it´s brilliant…..It´s his rendition of "I Believe in a Thing Called Love".
[Edit] Maybe a reaction video?

Oh? Yeah right…the song. Sorry, I was distracted, preoccupied with soccer + I cannot un-see the uptight drummer visual.😂Quite a contrast between how happy you always look w/guitar in hand.

Hidden in sweet July is a oooobvious reference to its namesake Julius Caesar and accompanying Shakespearian play 🙄 the song describes Ceasar's internal dialogue opening act 3. High on his own power thinly veiled in the knowledge that the senate is betting on it for their plan. All the while secretly his words and actions show an awareness of justified paranoia without care for the inevitable consequences "Doth not Brutus bootless kneel" 🧐
All nonsense asside tho writing obscure lyrics (eg. coldplay) has the effect of allowing context from a myriad of psychosis fuelled interpretations on the same song from completely different listeners. That being said writers too offen obscures their own feelings in the same way. Sweet July is probably going for that summer of 69 hit relase thing but a bit on the nose releasing it in July. However if September was released on the 21st would it detract from the overall message? To me the message of sweet July is a competent songwriter can channel the ego of the great Robbie Williams if they really want to.
The episode made me audibly laughe so many times. Great work JHRA 🙂

🥁🧔🏻🔫😂 Justin, you on the drums…sounds good BUT looks like you were forced behind the kit against your will.
⚽️ I’m sorry & congratulations to England! 🏴 🥳 I was rooting for your team all the way. Don’t be sad, World Cup 3rd place ain’t too shabby. 👏🏻

Take That started playing instruments on stage during their last tour after Robbie left back in 1996.
Mark was on bass then, but since Jason left he had to move to guitar.

Sweet July is a play on the phrase "sweet Christmas" from the Marvel comics character Luke Cage. Specifically "Hero for hire" #1 1971. It's described as Luke Cage's "family friendly explative". If I were to guess about this terribly boring song, they are trying to say "look how tough we are with our studio supplied instruments.. we are tough in July but also middle age housewife friendly. We're rebels with metrosexual mojo baby." 🎉

TT went in a more musically organic direction with their last record 'This Life'.
The 'III' record was Gary's attempt at a Coldplay record, and 'Wonderland' was a straight-up disco album.

Gary Barlow's always been great (excluding Open Road) and he's very good at knowing how to package themselves at any stage of career, what the product should look like. For comparison, at this stage of their career A-ha was going to Max Martin ("Analogue") but otherwise also filming like this ("did anyone approach you?")

The look is probably from Circus Live in London where Gary took off his jacket and realized that people loved his biceps😂
So I think that performance video is not part of the plan in the first place lol
Like the song though, capturing a feeling is quite nice still.

It's a nice little track. Gary Barlow has written some fantastic pop tunes. There is some really good stuff in the later Take That era, I think.
