This video felt a bit like healing for me, I'm not gonna lie. Seeing Lauryn from so early and acknowledging the good, the bad, and the ugly, allows me to feel like it's okay to be in a complicated relationship with her art. Thank you Fiq.

I feel you, I really do. As a parent I'm doing what I can to make sure my children are prepared for life, but sometimes question whether the harsh reality I share comes at a cost. Thanks for doing the work to educate me on Lauren's background — helps explain things. Like most, I first learned about her when the Fugees hit the scene. Then came her solo album, which was an instant classic. I was hooked, and never fully understood why it stopped. Fast forward to 2016, my wife and were living in Flatbush, and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to catch her at Kings Theatre. It was just a 15-minute walk from our apartment. Like most, I was expecting her to arrive late, yet wished she had shown up on time. It's tough loving her.

I feel like you missed the mark on this one. The overall tone undermines her depth and intellectual abilities. The way you brushed over the Unplugged album had me life what?! She was singing to and about the world’s events along with her personal journey. Possibly because of how she didn’t live up to idea of the women in your head during your formative years. Also, looking at her relationships with men from your male centered view was incredibly one sided and dismissive. I never not once felt like she was being preachy. I feel encouraged by her and most of all seen. I’m not alone in this. She deserves more than this. Love you and most of your work tho😅❤

Nice video, though to know anything about this artist is to know her struggle was between the flesh and the spirit. She was singing to the most high not men in unplugged … she didn’t find the flesh as interesting as the spirit and I imagine still doesn’t today. I spoke with her after a concert once and mentioned we needed another unplugged … she smiled and said yea, we do. Her relationships are godly and these types just don’t always work easily on Earth.

Man… Miseducation is such a sonicaly spiritual album. Lauryn Hill has always existed as this mythical musical deity to me. Being perceived that way by so many people from so young couldn't not ruin you in so many ways.

We were raised w a measure of tough love as well. While I understand it, tough love at home and tough life outside the home doesn't leave kids w a safe space with trusted adults.

It took a long time to get there, but now I like her Unplugged album as much as I do Miseducation, and I've bought the Miseducation album MANY times. I wouldn't liksten to it at a party, but sometimes it hits.

In other words, cherish your CD and enjoy it keep the old Lauren in your memory and just move on. Let her do whatever she's going to do in her life. The miseducation of Lauryn Hill is my absolute favorite album but I wouldn't pay a dime to see her late or not show.

F.D…I love you, amazing vid and I very RARELY disagree with you brother…but to say Lauryn's Unplugged was bad/ cringe is insane… Peace of Mind? Mystery of Iniquity? mannnnn you must me smoking! That shit was amazing and im NOT even an avid Lauryn Hill fan like that.

I think there needs to be a really clear line between though love and helping your kids through a life experience by teaching them a bit of "stoicism", if you're putting your kids through tough and emotionally taxing experiences on purpose repeatedly then it's just abuse.

I was in high school when I listened to miseducation – I borrowed the cd from a girl I had a crush on, which is a cute detail. It was a canon moment for me where I felt like listening to it helped me step into a new type of sophistication and agency in how I consumed art. I waited so long for the follow up and I was really excited to listen to the unplugged album. The bitter sweetness FD talks about as I slowly realized that the follow up and ensuing career I was waiting for wasn’t coming became the second canon moment Lauryn gave me – the lesson that sometimes all you will get is a moment, not a timeline or an era. It’s relatively recently that I’ve internalized that lesson and can see it as a gift instead of a tragedy. Thanks for the dope video, FD and thank you Lauryn – via Julia, shoutout Julia – on giving so many of us an incandescent moment.
