The vouchers were sold as helping poor kids, but the money is going to rich families and private schools, while public schools close and suffer.

The Public (govt.) Education System was created to INDOCTRINATE – not educate. It was copied from the Prussian System – openly, with the goal of creating obedience to authority, loyalty to the ruling class, allegiance to "the republic", without thought/critical analysis. It worked. Voters do not question the US Empire's moral authority – in fact they refuse to judge it at all. Rulers rule freely.

"My teacher… she didn't understand my autistic trait, and she kept sending me to detention."
This is actually the exact same reason that I went to a charter school instead of public school for many years. My teacher at the public school I went to originally would put me in detention every single day because my autistic traits made me a "problem child" and I needed to be "punished" for them. Even when I returned the the public school system in high school, I had to deal with teachers who would single me out, and a counselor who screwed with my class schedule because she thought I wasn't capable, both of which forced me into doing packets to make up class credit.
Ultimately though, the reason the public school system is like this is because it's underfunded and overly rigid w.r.t. students' needs. School vouchers just make this problem worse, and then sell themselves as the solution.
