SLACK! : NOSTALGIA

“Rewind” by After Hours

Dave's Archives | July 2, 2026

Night Shift began with the image of a young man working alone in a Japanese convenience store long after midnight. Every night the same automatic doors open. The same fluorescent lights hum overhead. Different people walk in looking for coffee, ramen, medicine, or cigarettes. He remembers every face, even though none of them remember his.

As the song unfolds, the convenience store becomes more than a workplace. It’s the only place where his sleepless nights make sense. While everyone else counts the hours until morning, he quietly watches another night pass, realizing he never chose the night. The night chose him.

Musically, this continues the evolving sound of my original project, blending dark electronic textures, hypnotic bass lines, restrained guitars, and cinematic late night atmosphere into a modern alternative sound. Like the other songs in this collection, Night Shift explores ordinary places, quiet routines, and the unseen lives that continue long after everyone else has gone home.

Some people work the night shift. Others simply belong there.
