Within less than a year, Northern Ireland has witnessed several historic events: for the first time, Catholics now outnumber Protestants, and the nationalists of Sinn Féin, the former political wing of the IRA paramilitaries, have won the elections. At a time when peace in Ireland has been undermined by Brexit, is a reunited Ireland inevitable?
This documentary looks at the impact of Brexit on Northern Ireland, where the ghosts of the past still haunt the everyday lives of the population and thwart the part of the country’s economic and political plans. Extremist groups are disrupting the negotiations between London and Brussels, challenging the peace policy and the future of Europe. If Brexit has already poisoned the atmosphere to such an extent, what will happen if the island of Ireland votes on reunification? The 1998 Good Friday Agreement opens the door to such a referendum.

You cannot prevent a customs border between N. Ireland and Republic of Ireland given one is a member of the EU and one is not. Everyone needs to grow up. Nation states have borders. End of story. The focus needs to be on making it work as smoothly as possible. Anyone involved in violence needs to be arrested at this point.

One thing this program missed is that in the modern world, unions, like the UK is worth its weight in gold. The UK is actually turning out to be the savior for Republic of Ireland, that isn't big enough by itself to make its own way. English, Scottish, Welsh, N. Ireland identity is really important, and so is the Union too. Everyone will be poorer without a United Kingdom of Wales, Scotland Northern Ireland and England. Even the US, as they have been telling us for years now, if we would only listen. Everyone needs to pull together now.

No worries, now that allegedly the Irish government has given 14,000 Russians entrance to Ireland which means also the EU, there will be lots more action and money spread around whether you want it or not. Whose pockets are lined with that money?
