    If you're interested in how people outside of Pyongyang live, there is a channel on YouTube called "Charles North Korea"

    He grew up there, escaped once – got caught and sentenced to work in a coal mine. Then he escaped a second time and made it.

    Don't worry. His parents were already gone, so he basically had nothing to lose and now lives in the US

    Another note: People from North Korea that ARE given permission to leave the country for whatever very specific reason are very specifically chosen because they have children the government can immediately punish if they defect while out of country.

    If you look deeper in the Otto story you will see he was likely framed. For one in the video that man took the poster off the wall very gently, something a drunk American teen that wanted to steal the poster wouldn't do (something a native korean person tought to be respectful to it would do). His story is tragic and quite enraging. His last months were horrible. He was returned home in a vegetative state, a shell of a human
