The mountains around the Phoenix area are a lot younger than the mountains of Vermont, generally. That is why they look so different. Arizona had just risen out of a shallow sea when Vermont's mountains were that young.

You're in Scottsdale and it is REALLY HOT! My in-laws retired to AZ from OH to live in a really different climate. They ended up living there for ~~ 25 years. The warmer winters allowed them to keep walking ~~ they lived into their mid-90's. Miss you Mom and Dad!

My aunt moved with her family to Arizona from Chicago. I was in Chicago for 3 months, it has very hot humid tempts and 4 feet snow ❄️ in winter, I hated both, I also remember sirens going off and my cousin's neighbor quickly call3d me so that I didn't think that the war broke out, it was only a tornado warning. I looked out and I remember seeing that neighbor's fence and my cousin's taking a bow, as if it will land on either side. But there was no tornado. Just very strong winds. I went home to California which I particularly didn't like the desert heat. Then heard of my aunt and her family who lived half their lives in Chicago move to Arizona 🤔 I was like why….. . I know it was for their business but I couldn't live in that extreme heat.

Youtuber Farm to Taber has good videos about the current American "poor family farmers", who actually arent that poor, but rather landowners with farming hobbies.

It's heartbreaking to loose pets to wildlife. I had ducks next to duck pond in Plymouth. Lost 1 to something getting into duck house, and gave them away to another farmer. I didn't know how to protect them and couldn't figure out what got in. Our chickens were never bothered. Maybe a weasel, I never considered that.

The reason that farms have changed is because Farmers have sold out to big corporations. In any farmer that tells you different is a liar. You might go in the land but you don't own what you sell. Farmers are so much in debt because of the machinery they buy they must need a million-dollar combined. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. My grandfather did his farming with an old beat-up John Deere for years. And he was making a profit. Nowadays the farmland is almost worthless. You look at the ground and it's gray and it smells. They have worked that ground so bad that you need lots of chemicals to grow your crops. 75% of your crops go overseas. 60% of cattle chickens pigs go overseas. We get a lot of our stuff from Mexico. The beef is disgusting. A lot of the vegetation fruits are rotten and they smell funny. And there's no taste. That's what's happening to the new farms.

What struck me is how the word "home" has such a deep and special meaning for you now. Maybe the road wasn't always smooth, nor will it be, but I thank you for sharing it all with us.

Sir you visited the Valley during practically the worst time of year 😅🥵 I expect to see you and the animals surrounded by rolling green pastures and forest when I click a video of yours. It’s such a juxtaposition to see you in my neck of the woods with all the dirt, palm trees, and murder shrubbery! 🌵🌞🔥

It may seem like an odd focus, but especially with your relation to Alfred (send him my brotherly love), do you have plans to excavate the GIANT rocks in your permaculture orchard?
At least the tops? Maybe 3-6 feet down?

Storytelling is one of your best assets Morgan, I remember all of these events except your place in DC. Thank you for sharing your life as a farmer to the good citizens of Arizona, and to us of course. Have a safe trip home Morgan!🐕🐕🐂🐓🐐🦆🪿🐈🐈💕👍

Thanks Morgan! I agree farming/homesteading is so complex in regards to stress, joy and sadness. Honesty is really the best policy, even when it is difficult to face. Thanks again.🎉

🤣🤣🤣 "Murder shrubbery"??? I live in AZ & love it (my family has been here since the mid 1800's). Anyway, I laughed so hard when you said that while fingering the cactus spines 😄 You know how to turn a phrase, sir 😊

Morgan, your channel is truly a balm to my soul. I don’t exactly know when I started watching, but it was pre Toby dog. I remember when your ducks were attacked. Anyway, it’s been quite a few years, and I get a rush of anticipation whenever a new video drops.

What makes your channel special is not the context, it’s the content. You’re such a great story teller. I didn’t know you had gone to art school. It makes sense.

I live Scottsdale adjacent. I’m from Connecticut. Yup, living in Arizona is like being on another planet! Nothing like the east coast. 🔥🐦‍🔥🥵 Thank you for sharing your story. You and Alison remind me of home and family. 💛
    Go Mother Goose! Real life on a farm. ⭐️✅😬😝 🪿 🐕 🐮 🦆 🐐 🐖 🐈 🐓 🌈💕🤣
