“Alberta separatism” isn’t real
Canada is not facing a separatist crisis from the province of Alberta in the west.

Interesting point about people wanting everything to be high-stakes Hollywood. Makes you wonder if we've been conditioned by many people growing up with 30 years of world-ending plot lines in Superhero movies… that we almost crave for that in our own lives. It's like how adrenalin junkies have to go bigger and bigger and how social media addicts need crazier and crazier story lines on their feed as they gradually are desensitized to normality.

What you didn't mention is that Americans might take this issue seriously. They will be eager to support Alberta militaryly, if needed.

I know he means quite successful as in they had a good amount of support. But they never got the separatism that they wanted… So quite successful seems an odd choice of words.

I feel like if some people hear it enough, they start to believe it. Seems to be a theme in maga and very conservative media. It seems to slowly be gaining momentum with that same group, from what I've seen. I still think it's a farce but at the same time it's interesting how easily manipulated a portion of the population truly is.

Some separatists and a foreign nation that would like to annex Canada are collaborating (through money and influence campaigns) to weaken this country. This is treason and should be treated seriously.
Do not underestimate the lengths to which the USA and the oil industry would go to achieve the break up of Canada.
The RCMP and CSIS should investigate these secessionist groups, arrest those collaborationist ringleaders and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

Well this hasn't aged well. Conservative anti-Canadian hysteria, behaving like MAGA creeps, is what has fanned the flames of separatism.

I think the west should totally have a separatist party ala the Bloc if only to fight for better representation based on our population. We are completely unrepresented. There are a lot of people getting real sick of government bloat and waste and have serious concerns about the future we are leaving for our children. Canada has created a K shaped economy and causes significant harm to young canadians coming out of highschool.

It's difficult to remember which episode is funniest because the jokes are hit and miss. How much I laugh depends on my mood and how engaged I am with the show. A relatively bad episode can have a lot of funny moments, but an episode I like might not have many jokes. Like, Who Shot Mr. Burns part 1 and 2, for example. I love that episode, but I don't remember it being particularly funny.
Edit: This comment was intended for a different post. I'm leaving it here as evidence that YouTube gets confused and puts comment in the wrong place.

Given today’s news, I would love an update from JJ. As an Alberta very proud of being Canadian, I am doom-spiralling 🙃.

This video has really solidified for me: when people I know IRL next mention "Albertans", I'm going to declare myself a Canadian who just happens to have been stuck in Alberta my whole life. If we separate, I'm moving to B.C.

If Canadian pundits are going to use Alberta's lack of distinctive culture, then they should be consistent and push for Canada being absorbed into the loving arms of the USA.

Alberta succeeding Canada is like saying California, Minnesota, or Texas would succeed from the United States. No matter what political climate we are in right now, its better off to stay united rather than to sucede.

I appreciate your center-left perspective of the Alberta separation J. J.
As a center-right albertan, I've watched the country we grew up proud to be a part of slowly creap into a direction where equality and prosperity are no longer considered foundational in our national politics. Most albertans are proud canadians who want the country they grew up loving. You've likely experienced firsthand how your own opinions, once considered left leaning, are slowly aligning more with conservative values of old-school democracy. I see alberta as a province with a large rural, blue-collar and independence minded population, feeling their values being stripped away by a federal government that raises taxes, restricting farmers and ranchers, capping exports of one of our country's greatest resources, stripping privileges from Canadians across the country, and just seems totally out of touch with the struggling middle-class. This referendum is a plea for help for Ottawa to wake up and realize they've alienated rural and blue-collar Canadians and the industries that helped build Canada into what it is. I think giving this a closer look might show you that these are just valid concerns from hardworking Canadians in all provinces. Alberta is just the most vocal. Looking forward to all your future content!

Decades of underrepresentation and disrespect leading to widespread disunity? "A silly issue"
@wildridlaurier
June 16, 2026 at 9:31 pm
I really don’t care who separates or who doesn’t. A lot of people just like getting attention. And the idea that the rest of the country would just let Alberta have all the oil is ridiculous.
@matttanner462
June 16, 2026 at 9:31 pm
Looking back on this, I have had the genuine question that, even if for some reason there was a full referendum held that voted for independance, would Alberta actually have any mechanism through which to force the issue? What if the federal government just says “Nah we won’t let you separate”.

I'm Albertan, and I am VERY pro Canadian. To say there isn't an organized (and well funded) separatist movement happening here is BATSHIT CRAZY.
The separatists probably won't win. But their message is popping up all over spcial media, and it looks like they're going to get their referendum question put to a vote.
I get it, JJ. You're a gay conservative living in Vancouver – so you're used to deluding yourself.
Maybe open your eyes on this issue. It's a little more important than being the "contrarian" voice in Yaletown.
Also – it's pronounced "about."

How do you even get to be apart of referendums? I've never once been asked a referendum question via mail or email or in person? Does that happen? Lol

It is real. or atleast it is now. 5 months ago when this vid came out maybe it was still a dream, but now there is going to be an actual referendum.

Now that the "Free State Alberta" is collecting signatures for holding a referendum for Alberta Separation, how's that "non-existing" Separatist Movement working out for you? I guess that you were either not aware of it or you misinterpreted the signs in your tea leaves in the cup.
